Thumbs up New TV show on personal defense

I saw the first episode of Tom Gresham's new self-defense show on the Outdoor Channel today. It's called "Personal Defense TV" and it's going to be oriented towards the many areas that surround self-defense. The first show was pretty good, had some high profile names in self-defense training and equipment, and also reminded me of some of the recent shows on "Shooting Gallery" (also on the Outdoor Channel) dealing with self-defense training and issues.

Tom Gresham will be the show's regular host and it's suppose to concentrate on the different aspects of self-defense, from equipment to training to legal do's and don'ts. There will be well known names in self-defense as regulars. Massad Ayoob gave some pointers on situational awareness today, there was a segment on self-defense shooting vs. target shooting and there was a good review of the Taurus .45/410g revolver.

From what I can see, it looks like a show most of us here can relate to! You'll have to check the channel listings for the times, but the first show was on Tuesday (9/26) at 3:30 pm (Central) and will be repeated on several different days & times if it's like the other shows on the network.

If this is a sample of the material and quality we can expect in the future, it looks like a "keeper".

Unfortunately, my local cable company has decided to only make The Outdoor Channel available if you buy the "sports tier" cable programming and I am only a casually interested in most "sports". When we had access to it, I watched the channel regularly. Now I'm deprived and pissed about it.....

According to what I see, the same episode will show Thursday and Sunday. Hit this link and scroll down to the schedule:

Outdoor Channel has some good programming, and I'll be watching this show!

I think it will be good if for no other reason, but keep everybody sharp. And if we can glean something that we have never thought of or read then all the better.

I'm kinda tempted at that Taurus pistol now

Well it's about time there was a positive show on TV about personal defense. Hollywood has spread their lies enough!

Unfortunately I won't be able to see the program as my cable only goes up to my antenna.

I'm not sure if I have the Outdoor Channel in my cable package. I heard about the show through Rob Pincus from Valhalla Training Center (he's also S.W.A.T. Magazine's training consultant). It sounds like it's going to be a good show.

Well, I have Dish Network. Apparently I get the Outdoor Channel. Only problem with the show is that it's showing the next scheduled show at 5:30am. Even with my schedule (shift change every 7 days) I won't be able to see it. =O(

OLN ought to be called the Hunting and Fishing channel here in VA because that's all they carry. Basic cable includes it here, but they opted not to run Personal Defense TV. Hey, maybe somebody here could record the shows and post them for those of us who can't get them?

For those on satellite who don't have the channel because it's in the sports package, you can get the channel by itself but you have to call your satellite provider. Must talk to someone in customer service, there's no way to turn that channel on by itself otherwise. It's $1.99 a month.
As an aside, I hadn't even heard of the show until seeing this thread, but I worked on a show with Tom Gresham about two years ago and he is one of the good guys. I can't say enough positive about him. Got the opportunity to chat with him over a few beers one evening and he definitely knows guns.
Unless the producers run over him, whatever show he does will be worth watching.

    Thanks for the heads up!

I'm on cable, Bright House Networks, so I don't know it that one is available to me. But I'm going to be looking through the listing, today!

If it were available, I'd happily pay for an on-line download of this one.
