    It'll be interesting to see what if any new information comes out about this. If the report was accurate, it tells people that they should allow themselves to fall prey to those who seek to do us harm, rather than seeking help wherever that help may exist. This case could set very dangerous precedent.

    Not a lot of details, but it sound like common sense has officially died.

    Not enough details in the article. What was the pc for searching the car? Just not enough details to make a call on this one.

    This report adds a little to the story.

    She was on her way to the school to drop off child, and told dispatcher she carried a gun.

    Still, if she was feeling threatened, why is she the one arrested.

    GFSZ laws are mostly ridiculous.

    The only common sense gun legislation was written about 224 years ago.

    I carry always not because I go places trouble is likely, but because trouble has a habit of not staying in its assigned zone.

    Douche bags. But she did tell on herself on a permanent, public record.

    If I thought I was being followed, I wouldn't stop until I saw the blue lights and I certainly wouldn't stop where I was dropping off my kid!

    They probably figured if she was on the way to drop off her child, she knew she was going to a school with a gun in her car. (She should have kept that bit of info to herself.) By the second story, it doesn't sound like she pulled into the school for refuge.

    Luckily for us in Oregon we can carry IN schools with a CHL. I never go to my children's school without one.

    Same with indiana it can be left in a vehicle,but cannot be taken in the building.

    Thats awesome a parent was more worried about another parent and their legally owned firearm than the possibility of a crimminal being in the vicinity of the school.......moron.

    Thing is, part of the requirement to convict a crime is proving criminal intent. Can't prove criminal intent in someone trying to be safe.

    Though she'll probably accept a plea of some sort.

    A lot of information missing, but on face value, it appears common sense was lacking on the part of the Charlotte police.

    I don't get it. Why was her car searched and did she have a CWP?

    The Gun Free School Zones Act states:
    (A) It shall be unlawful for any individual knowingly to possess a firearm that has moved in or that otherwise affects interstate or foreign commerce at a place that the individual knows, or has reasonable cause to believe, is a school zone.
    (B) Subparagraph (A) does not apply to the possession of a firearm—
    (i) on private property not part of school grounds;
    (ii) if the individual possessing the firearm is licensed to do so by the State in which the school zone is located or a political subdivision of the State, and the law of the State or political subdivision requires that, before an individual obtains such a license, the law enforcement authorities of the State or political subdivision verify that the individual is qualified under law to receive the license;

    I grew up in Charlotte and trust me--the people who run that place have always have utopian visions of grandeur with no concerns other than the city's image. The wonderful city planners (literally) destroyed the section of town where I lived. I suspect the woman will eventually get off, but the nose-in-the-air attitudes will never change there.
