OK, armed victims of crime deserve no sympathy because they should have trained harder. What are your thoughts on that statement?

Where did you hear that? I guess whoever said that didn't take into consideration my 10 & 13 year old grandson or my legally blind sister-in-law.

That it is outlandish, cruel and uncompassionate.

I don't carry a gun to look for or start a fight. I carry one to finish a fight I never wanted to be in.

Train as hard as you possibly can (as a Soldier for instance) & you can still get dead from an IED, sniper or a mortar round with your name on it. And we trained HARD.

Its not much different from the attitudes expressed by those that say a person who gets robbed when walking late at night deserve less sympathy than a person who is robbed during daylight hours while sitting at a pew in their church. Or the woman who is abducted and raped because they might be wearing revealing clothing. Even the way some open carriers are treated on here and elsewhere because afterall they deserve what they get.

Because there are lots of ignorant people out there who actually hold this belief?

Anyone who would make that statement needs to be smacked in the back of the head!!!

Someone making the statement needs to wake up and come out of their make believe, fairy tale world. There are too many things in life we cannot control.
Freedom doesn't come free. It is bought and paid for by the lives and blood of our men and women in uniform.

It is a meaningless question. If someone was a victim of a crime, why would they care if some random stranger sympathizes for them?

Very few people deserve to be a victim of a crime. Just because one isn't carrying doesn't mean he should be a victim of a crime.

I would say the majority of people in the United States consider carrying a handgun everywhere to be weird, and they might be right.

I do believe people should be aware and responsible for their own safety, but this statement is a bit harsh.
English is my second language, I have been told my use of it is harsh, apologies if this is the matter.
