    Going to Scottsdale AZ...

and I'll be carying with my non res. TX CHL. I was going to ask about the Casino's but saw on a thread that Indian res. are no no's. Anybody know if you can carry over at Turf Paradise (horse races)? I'll be staying away from Indian reservation areas although there's a couple close by the Scottsdale area. Also, anyone from the area know if that city or any surrounding have any problems with open carry? Just curious as this may be an area i'll be relocating to.

Downtown Scottsdale, I wouldn't carry openly. I only have second-hand experience, but my friend was hassled by the gendarmes because it's a tourist town and they don't want you to scare them away. The major malls have "no weapons" signs on some of the doors (in non-contrasting colors, small print, near the floor), but in 9 years out here I have yet to learn of any prosecution for violating those rules. Out of the major shopping areas you shouldn't have any problems with open carry.

I'm in the East Vally (Mesa-Chandler-Gilbert area) and open carry isn't common but it's not rare, either. On occasion I'll stop at the supermarket on my way home from a match with the 1911 strapped on and I've never seen anyone react to it.

I'll leave open carry for if i ever do relocate down there. For this tip i'll just conceal carry. Do those non contrasting signs hold weight? I thought I read that the sign with a gun had to be in Red. It was a lot easier in Texas to know if a sign held weight or not as there was only I think 2 signs that were legit. A 30-06 sign in english and spanish at least 1" big in writing or a 51% sign.

There is only one "official" gun-buster sign in AZ for places that serve alcohol for on-premises consumption (bars and restaurants), which they may elect to post, or not. (And you may carry concealed into such places with a permit if they are not posted and you don't drink.) All other signs are free-style... IKEA has a goofy one that says something like "we prefer a weapon-free environment." But those signs allegedly convey the occupant's intent that they don't want weapons in their store or facility.
