N.C. you must have either a pistol permit purchased from your local Sheriff which takes 10 days or if you have a CCP you are good to go same day. Haven't bought a long gun in simply ions so can't say as to that.
In Ohio, fill out a form, FFL calls it in, and out the door with your new handgun or long gun. No difference if you have a CCW or not.

Permit to purchase requirements are waived if you have a Permit to Carry Weapons.
Last time I purchased a long gun (single shot .410), without a permit to purchase a handgun (or a PCW), there was a 3 day wait (I can't remember if that was federal, or just the retailer.. ~10 years ago?).
To be honest I am not sure about Ohio. Three times in one month I went into a store, picked out a hand gun, filled out a paper, a call was made. I walked out with the gun about 5 min later. They did want money :)
