Even if open carry were allowed in most states I would rather it be concealed. If I were in a situation were someone was going to rob a store or something of that nature, criminals are going to see who is carrying and who is thier greatest threat. I would rather surprise them with a subtle "Surprise."

Sometimes it's best to remain low key.

    My 2 cents
    Amendment II

A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

I live in Virginia where open carry is legal, and that's the only way we can carry in a restaurant or other place that serves alcohol. I carry concealed where I can, but I "go open" when I enter a place that serves alcohol. I'm also carrying open when in my truck. I stopped at a vehicle accident a while back and didn't think to cover my pistol, I just got busy calling 911 and trying to help a driver with a head injury. When the deputies and the EMT's arrived they didn't even seem to look at the gun. I spoke to at least two deputies and they didn't even seem to care. Then I had an accident and handed the State Trooper and later a deputy my CCW permit along with my license. Neither of them even remarked about it. They knew before that because CCW status is linked to our driver's license when they call in the check.

I've been told several times in restaurants by employees or other customers that my gun was exposed. The customers were from out of state and didn't know the law in Virginia, and we had a friendly discussion of the differences (they were a CCW couple.) The employees were told what the law requires and they were ok with that. There are some businesses and malls that deny us our 2nd amendment rights, and that's their right - I try very hard to avoid those places.

It's a choice we each have to make. Good luck with your choice.
The very atmosphere of firearms anywhere and everywhere restrains evil interference - they deserve a place of honor with all that's good.

Actually in the state of Ohio Open Carry is allowed by state law but since Ohio doesn't have full state preemption the laws very by town, village, township, and city. For example my folks live in Plain Township just outside North Canton, OH. I can carry open and have outside their house, but in North Canton it is illegal.

I live in Northern Virginia and before my CCW I carried all the time openly and nigh a problem. In VA the LEO's know the law and have no problem with open carry.

    In Nevada

You will quickly find that all the criminals carry some sort of weapon and as for open carry-THEY DO NOT, unless of course they are in the comission of a crime. You will find that here as long your gun is registered you will recieve very little more than a smile from an LEO. I carry a stainless Colt Mark IV Combat Commander .45 and with the exception of the swap meet once, people enjoy having you around, including the cops. I guess they figure the criminals are smart enough to hide their guns, and good citizens are serious about using their's. P.S. I carry for the good of others, myself looking toward heaven. Fear is the opposite of Faith. David carried sword and sling, I do too.

I will open carry if I cannot get good concealment. I'd rather it be out there, than to have someone see a poorly hidden gun.

Otherwise, I tend to conceal just so people don't freak out. I assume that they just think you're a cop or something.

Concealed at all times. I would not carry open even if it was legal. I believe in surprise.

When I lived in Georgia, I did a lot of camping in the mountains and always carried open, which was legal. Now that I'm in Florida, i don't camp anymore and don't even know if open is legal in certain areas. I always carry concealed now and probably would do so even if it became legal to open carry.

Concealed is one of the greatest advantages that civilians have on their side. Giving that away before you have to, will almost definitely get you much unwanted attention
