Approved for further processing
One more in CA!!! My application for CCW has been approved for further processing. For those of you not in CA, what that means is that the local LE Agency has aproved me, and all that is left is an FBI and DOJ background check and training. As I have nothing to worry about w/the background check I should have permit in hand within a couple months. Woohoo.

Questions on CA carry.
How long did this take?
What hoops have you had to jump through thus far?
Did you need to provide a "sufficient reason" to carry?

On the hoops question. I originally submitted my application to the Orange County Sheriff's Dept. a few months back. I was declined because of "Lack of Good Cause". My original Good Cause Statement stated that I needed a CCW for self defense in the course of my duties as a Realtor. I gave up hope for awhile but got another bug in my rear to give it another go.
I joined www.californiaccw.org (a california ccw forum) to see what could be done about my case. I got tons of help from the members over there in rewriting my good cause. I got conflicting advice about including the fact that I am an avid shooter. Based on the fact that I only owned one handgun at the time (that changed today, I just paid for an H&K USPC .45, picking it up on the 15th) I decided not to add it in the appeal letter even though I am a member at the local range and shoot once or twice a week.
After fine tuning my GC a dozen times or more I finally sent it in. About a week later I received a call from the person handling the application. He told me that I was almost there with my GC but I needed an extra little "oomph" to get me over the edge. He asked me what else I could offer. I told him about my range membership and shooting habits, he said great. "Change your GC to reflect that, get a letter from your range and send it in, we should be good to go".
I did as he requested, did not count my chickens. About one week after that I got a letter from the SD stating that I had been aproved for further processing.
All in all, it wasn't hugely difficult once I received the right advice. I also consider myself very fortunate that the investigating Officer took the time to give me a call and tell me what else I could do to make it happen. Thanks to Lt. Dave N. Not everyone would take the time out of their day to do that, they would just as soon use the big ole "DECLINED" stamp on your application.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

It sucks you had to go through all that crap though. In Montana I turned in my application and a week later it showed up in the mail.

Congrats!
Research pays off again. You should start a thread for the Cali members to help them write their documents.

Best bet is to join www.californiaccw.org . There are many there with tons more knowledge of the process than I.
