It would either be my S&W 686-1 or my Colt Series 70 MK IV Gov't Model in 45 ACP. It would be backed up by my Remington 870 Wingmaster (for birds and deer) and my Winchester Model 70 in 270Win. (for deer and other game).

This is a classic. Can I have any hunting weapons? What about target shooting weapons? Collectible weapons? "Just because" weapons?

Still - I'll play. When I go a place with only 1 weapon - that 1 weapon is a concealed Glock 21SF. So I guess I have already chosen, in a way. If I could only ever own 1 weapon at all, I would choose something else.

If the role is isolated to strictly personal defense, then make mine a 1911 in .45 ACP, please.

My Bersa 380 since it gives a tighter group than my 357 regardless of what I aim at.

Glock 22, 23, 27 would give you at least 3 calibers each.
Glock 20, that many or more....

Of course you need different barrels & mags.

OK guys...lot's of great choices here, but some are missing the point of the exercise here.....You can only have 1 weapon for PD..no backup's, no multiple choices....you get one gun and that's it...All the ammo you can tote is fine..but 1 weapon.....now are you sticking with your original choice or changing your mind ????
There are two types of people who carry concealed weapons...Responsible ones and Irresponsible ones...which are you...
