Custom Browning High Power in .357 sig. Because it's my favorite (and because my wife swiped my G19). Yes/yes. But, luckily I have a bunch of CCW choices. :image035:
I chose to shoot this gun because 1) it is a full size gun and I shoot very accurately with it, 2) since by law, in Texas anyways, you must shoot factory loaded ammunition, 9mm is among the cheapest, and 3) it is a semi automatic, not a revolver (Texas has two classes of license, SA and NSA, Semi-Automatic allows carry of a semi or a revolver, while NSA Non-Semi-Automatic only allows revolver or derringer carry).
Since I reload my own ammunition, I usually never have to buy ammo, but because this time I had no choice, 9mm was the cheapest route.
Walther PPQ
"Why?" Why not? The gun is awesome. In texas if you want to carry a semi-automatic, you have to qualify with a semi-automatic.
Yes, I still have it and yes I carry it.
I'm well aware of the revolver/semi-auto stipulation thing here in Texas. Obviously it makes sense to qualify with a semi-auto, even if you plan on CC with a revolver. Better to have the option anyway.
Since I was using my CC course for the additional reason of having an up to date (current) NRA safety verification, I took several friends (we set up a private class at the range with an excellent NRA instructor) and several models of large caliber revolvers and pistols. Each had to demonstrate proficiency with both a revolver and pistol to pass and each got a certificate stating proficiency in either type of weapon, of the several variations we had of each to work with.
I used a Glock 22, borrowed the gun from my dad. He still has it, was his last Dept. issued gun. I recall doing well in the course, but it was pretty lame so no biggy there.
Why I used it? No real reason. It was a good size pistol and I was looking to buy a .40 at the time so it made sense to test drive the G22.
Springfield 1911-A1, because I shot it well, and already had carried it lots (the previous state didn't require a shooting skill test), and I thought qualifying with my .22 pistol would be, well, cheating.
Yes, I still have it, but I use other 1911s for carry purposes.
Va. required a NRA safety course certificate at the time. I used my S&W 4006 which was my carry gun for several years.
Still have it, and don't carry it much any more. Too heavy.
In Mi. we don't have to qualify, just show proficiency.
My Dan Wesson.
15-2VH.
Instructor looked at me shooting and said I was cheating somehow.
Yes I still have it.
It is not for sale for all the tea in China.
I carry it around the woods up north looking to shoot coyotes pigs or whatever threatens me at the cabin in the woods.
Back when ... a Browning BDM 9mm. It was the first gun I had, it was what I intended to carry, and it was the most accurate thing I had ever fired to-date. No longer have that pistol, no.
Astra A-75, .40 cal. At the time it was the only semi-auto I owned in a defensive caliber. I still have it, she resides in my nightstand now. If the need ever arose, I'd carry her again.
My first handgun i owned was the one that i qualified with. It was a Beretta PX4 SC 9mm. I bought it before the class and now have passed it on to my wife who loves it. For CC my wife and I both have went to the LC9.
I keep my S&W 340 M&P for CC. I know it's only 5 shots but its got the power, weight, and size that's perfect for me. Hopefully I won't need 15 shots if I am ever in a situation that requires the use of my pistol.
I took the free course offered by the Cabell Co. WV Sheriff. WV law states you must fire a handgun as part of the course. The Sheriff supplied the .38 spl revolvers, we just had to pay for the ammunition and they used the Police range.
Independent courses you can use any type handgun. Our permit states Pistol/Revolver License, so I can carry whatever I choose. Usually 9mm Smith & Wesson 39-2. Recently pack the Ruger LCP that my wife used to carry, until I got her the LCR .357 magnum that she loves. She also took the Sheriff course for her permit
The permit in NC is pistol. Never said anything about a permit for a revolver. Is that something that is regulated in other states? Having to have a permit for both?
