How do you stop creaking?

Got a new OWB (Ritchie leather...nice workmanship) that snaps onto the belt. Have been wearing it around the house to break it in...and glad I did. It "creaks" where the straps go around the belt. It creaks when I stand up or sit, and sometimes even when walking. Didn't notice noise with a similar holster for my PM9, but it seems the weight of the .45 makes this one noisier. Will the noise go away with time? Is there anything I can put on the holster now to stop it? It's a 5.11 belt...will moving to a leather belt decrease or increase the noise?

Baby powder.

My knees creak louder than any holster could :)

It's my understanding that this can dry out leather.

Initially all my leather holsters creaked somewhat but I either got used to it & no longer heard it or it went away. My nylon holster never creaked (and it's the cheapest & most comfortable) lol.

I suppose if you bathe it in the stuff every day, but I just blow some on the areas I think creak, wipe it off and go. I've never needed a second application once I found the creaking spot.

I'd be interesting in having some of the holster makers weigh in on this, but I can't imagine there is enough powder on my holsters to have any type of long term negative effect.

The only holster I had that creaked stopped after in got broken in (which was about 2 weeks). Try wearing it around the house for a few days and see if the creaking stops

Thanks...figured I'd go that route. Once broken in, did you have to go through the same exercise for each belt you wore (specifically the 5.11 vs. a leather one, maybe because of a difference in the width)?

I had not heard of the baby powder solution. Good one!

Mine do too...thought they don't sound like leather and the noise isn't coming from my waist.:icon_eek:

No I only have 2 gun belts (one black one brown) both are leather 1.5"

Baby powder works for a lot of people. Also Neatsfoot Oil for horse hide, mink oil for cow hide.

Ear plugs or turn up the radio.



If there's one discernible spot that is causing the creaking you can try rubbing lightly with a candle. Not too much, a very little goes a long way.
