Good: Illinois MUST pass concealed carry law

Court strikes down Illinois concealed carry law - News - Boston.com

According to the 7th circuit, they have 180 days to pass the law.

Granted you know they'll make it restrictive as hell and may issue, but it's a victory for us and loss for them.

I love it! But even if it will likely be appealed (and it may not be as I re-read the article) it may not happen quite that soon, but hopefully it will. I think a lot of people in Illinois are going to be dancing in the street.

I agree...this will drag on forever and they'll use every trick in the book (and probably some illegal ones too) to get around the judgement. But it's a step at least.

Perhaps there is light at the end of the tunnel, after all. Congratulations all Illinois citizens!!!

COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR LEGISLATORS, regarding what should/shouldn't be in the legislation.

BTW, I hope this 180-day order has some teeth in it, severe enough for the elected/administrative hirelings to get the picture. (Hey, one can hope, right?) Because I can't believe for a second they are going to craft a workable law before 180 days is up without suffering severely for contemptuously ignoring the order.

    SAF victory in Illinois

SAF Press Release :: SAF WINS HUGE VICTORY FOR CARRY IN ILLINOIS

The Second Amendment,” Judge Posner writes, “states in its entirety that ‘a well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.’ The right to ‘bear’ as distinct from the right to ‘keep’ arms is unlikely to refer to the home. To speak of ‘bearing’ arms within one’s home would at all times have been an awkward usage. A right to bear arms thus implies a right to carry a loaded gun outside the home."

what kind of restrictions do you think they will place on carry in IL?

Same way they dole out lucrative state contracts. If you aren't politically connected then no soup for you. I have a feeling their restrictions will make CA's and NYC's look like child's play.

Just saw this on TTAG. Good for you appeals court. Sucks we have to worry about the scummy politicians having more power than the courts at the end of the day though.

Congratulations to all of my IL friends! You have achieved a notable success which further reinforces our fundamental rights as recognized by the 2nd Amendment.

Keep up the pressure to help ensure this ruling is executed through effective legislation!

Im in central IL and yes im just about dancing in the street! Take that Crook County! I agree it will be restricted and probably an ungodly price for a carry permit. Wouldnt be suprised to see same price as a vehicle for a year. $99. But ya never know...

I think in 180 days (or 360 for that matter) the average citizen will have no more rights to carry than they do now.

    Picture California, but more restrictive!

A theoretical victory only. For 99% of the population - it will stay the same.

Good luck Illinois - I hope it turns out better than I have described.

I'd imagine they'll give you something like u can only open carry and you need to pay $200 for a permit that expires every 2 years and you need to take 5 hrs of training every two years.
