Welcome to your local American Legion!
Yep, below is what you see at the door of American Legion Post 92 in Rochester, MN...I don't go there!

And, yes, I've made noise about it. I wrote to their national headquarters protesting this practice of posting, as well as sent a copy of the same letter to the leadership of Post 92.
The national headquarters denied getting the letter, so I sent it a second time. They replied with some gibberish that basically put the responsibility on the local Post. The leaders of Post 92 never replied, likely writing me off as some quack.
I am a life member of Disabled American Veterans (DAV), being 100%service-connected disabled, permanent and total, as a result of my Vietnam tour; yet I will not set foot in that building to attend the local DAV Chapter meetings held there, precisely because of this posting.

Jimmy - that sign is obscene - all things considered
That said - I doubt it has any legal clout.

It's just so absurd...I'll never understand the "logic" that determines a sign like that to be a good idea.
Stand strong, thank you so much for your service, and I'm so sorry for what it cost you. My hat is off to you and all those who have worn the uniform.

I can believe it. Just one of the reasons why I won't join.
I never had time to sit around a barstool and listen to old tales of glory when theres new ones to be made....
Jimmy...sorry for your loss on their part.

That's insane -- why in the world would they take that stance.

When I was a member of the VFW in Florida a few years back, their was a bar open all the time. If the American Legion is like that, then that may be the reason why. I wouldn't think that vets anywhere would be anti-gun.

My local Legion has a similar sign. I maintain membership for what they do for vets, but I don't attend any functions there.
At my F&AM lodge, no sign exists, but I leave my shootin iron in the car when I attend meetings there, but that's a completely different situation and a non-drinking event.

In MN, it is a legal posting. However, were someone with a permit to actually carry on the premises, they would need to be asked to leave and not comply before they could be cited for a $25 fine. In our state, postings are pretty toothless. In this case, however, I find it offensive.

Proud to say my post has no such asinine thing in the window. Of course, I am pretty sure that would ensure the demise of the post. The number of vests and fanny packs at any given meeting is mind numbing.

I won't join VFW or AL because they don't allow non-Christians.
This isn't a statement about my own faith, but these organizations SHOULD be about the honorable service members provided the nation... not religious clubs.

DaveT, Welcome Home!
To all, I must clarify that I'm in no way bashing the mission or accomplishments of American Legion as an organization, but am specifically voicing my disgust at the local post's lack of recognition of our Second Amendment rights.
