new gun law could help stop tragedies like Newtown massacre

Saw this title, and clicked to the link expecting the worst, but was surprised by what I saw...

Michigan is considering allowing CC in schools. The legislation is apparently on the Governor's desk waiting to be signed.

Can Washington be next? I drop my daughter off every morning, and each and every morning I leave my carry rig locked in my car where: 1) it does me no good, and 2) is off my person, and therefore that much easier to steal.

Why isn't your story on the mainstream media news? It's ridiculous when you find a fair answer to a problem its always ignored on guns

    Because the msm is anti-gun
You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, "I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along." . . . You must do the thing you think you cannot do. Eleanor Roosevelt

This would certainly help. At least some of the faculty could shoot back.

Lots of Minnesota trainers are now offering to train teachers for free if they get written permission to carry (making it legal for them to).

“Who in their right mind needs to carry a gun in a school, day care center or stadium,” said Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton...

That's a damn fine question Mr. Leyton. Unfortuately, the rest of your quote shows you don't know the answer.

What a poor excuse for a responsible human being this guy is!

The bill sponsored by state Sen. Mike Green, R-Mayville, also states that schools, including public universities, and privately owned buildings could choose to prohibit guns if owners desire.
I like the law but this just gives the schools an option to prohibit firearms thus negating the law.

Sooner or later (hopefully sooner) people may begin to realize that the only real solution to bad guys with guns is having more good guys with guns. Of course many people just won't get it.

I respectfully have to disagree. Not everyone has it in their nature to be a cop, member of the military or firefighter, some just want to carry on their lives in there chosen profession in this case an educator. Yes while teachers and administrators are charged with our children's safety while they are in school I would not expect or demand that a first grade teacher carry a firearm for that purpose.

Carrying a firearm is a great responsibility but more importantly it is a choice and part of that is an even bigger decision of whether or not they could take a human life, but it is their choice not ours.

I have been a gun owner all my life and this event really shook me up. I don't know the answer anymore. Just like the other public shootings folks are jumping up and down "If only there had been a person there with a gun" they could have stopped this. Could they? Many on this and other forums have stated that they would become involved only if there life was threatened and many others admitted they did not have the training to be effective but consider it unfair/unconstitutional to require such training. They train at three yards, three shots, three seconds because that is what the statistics say. How many would go towards the sound of gunfire to face a person with a rifle?

The average gun toter buys their gun, may or may not have to have any training or even fire a shot. They may go to the range or simply strap it on and hope they never have to use it. Some states have the right idea you want to carry in a gun free/school zone great put forth the effort and and money to get the training needed to be effective otherwise you are simply an armed victim. SmokinFool is correct in his statement but I would add to it that the solution for bad guys with guns is having more trained good guys with guns.

"A first rate man with a third rate gun is far better than the other way around". The gun is a tool, you are the craftsman that makes it work. There are those who say "if I had to do it, I could" yet they never go out and train to do it. Don't let stupid be your mindset. Harryball 2013

20 year retard killer in a gun free zone. No new laws could have prevented this.
