Hello once again. . . Long time member here (long post)

    Hello my DC fam,

This may be a long post but please hear me out. . . .

So I have been a DC member for a very long time, in fact I use to LOVE and still do LOVE doing transactions with fellow DC members. I can truly say that I have never had a problem with any transactions here. This is one of the only places that I can brag about the honesty and integrity of the people. So this is why I am writing today.

Over the past couple of years I have grown, matured and picked different sides on of the gun laws. At 21 I was a all about guns and protecting my family to the fullest. I have never lost that feeling totally. Between 21 and 27 I became a believer in our Lord and savior Jesus Christ and my views shifted quickly. With 2 kids and the way that this world was going I needed to set aside my all about gun feelings for just a little bit and be the one outside looking in. I use to carry every single day almost 24/7 and since becoming a believer I slowly stopped carry all together.

Since then my wife and I have took over a non-profit called Alliance for Family Hope and started an after school program called Gateway 2 Hope. Yesterdays events in CT have really opened my eyes in ways that I couldn't believe. We have 20+ children that we have to make sure are safe in our program. I just can not even imagine what I would feel like if something like that happen and I could of prevented it but my firearm was in my car glove box!!!!

All that to say that after a long period away from feeling that security of the heavy piece of metal on my side, I will be getting re-comfortable (or what you use to say making a Wally Mart trip) carrying my firearm again!!!!

Good for you, and good for those innocents in your care. Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. Couldn't live with myself if I allowed harm to come to children or any innocents in my care. Glad you came around. Be safe.

Your posting is great. I appreciate the sincerity and honesty in it.
As a Christian, I too struggled a bit with carrying a firearm and I just bet I know your feelings on the subject.

Rather than start a thread that probably does not belong in these forums, feel free to email me if you wish to discuss the biblical perspective on
    earthly physical protection.

I've met a few christians who feel carrying a gun is not trusting enough in a higher power.
I completely disagree. The biblical evidence is overwhelming for the case of "Handle it!"

    Thanks for your posting.

May it never happen again. But if attempted, may the evil one catch the first bullet.

    Thanks for your post.

    Reason amidst the storm.

What can we as individuals do to make our little corner of the world better in light of the tragedy.

There is a storm coming. But, unless things change drastically against us, our rights to protect ourselves and those in our direct care should not be affected dramatically.

Luke 22:36 seems to warn us to be prepared to defend ourselves (and our brothers and sisters) from the Evil in the world.

Welcome, back! I'm newer here, so I am "meeting" you for the first time, so "Hello." I share the same faith as you, and I fully understand the need to reconcile belief and responsibility. It sounds like a wonderful program to which you and your wife have selflessly devoted yourselves. I realize this is not the forum to discuss faith/beliefs (I'd be preachin' to the choir, anyway, I think ). However, I will say that responsibility to self-defense and faith certainly do work together. It is true that the atrocity of such events, as in CT, certainly is eye-opening to believers and non-believers alike. It sounds as if you've come to peace concerning the responsibility for the safety and well-being of the children in which you've been blessed to care for and teach.

And to add to what Ret said - how are we to think of a believer who does not provide for his family (1 Tim 5:8)? Provision is more than just food. It includes protection among other things.

Welcome home! As a Christian I never had any problems with protecting myself or others. My state of Wisconsin only recently enacted a concealed carry law in November '11. Up to that time I taught martial arts & self defense when I was younger. Now I want to get certified to instruct CCL classes. My first classes will be for members of my church at my church & free of charge with the blessings from my pastors. There's a provision in our state law allowing this to happen. Otherwise carrying a gun in our church is a felony offense because the church is attached to our school. Fortunately we have several Police Officers in the membership & they're allowed to carry. The trouble is with 3 services a week they all aren't covered. There is no way around this law. Our pastors checked.

    Welcome back to the forum.

Many Christians have a hard time reconciling carrying a gun for protection and what organized religions interpretation of the passages in the bible say. One of the biggest arguments used against carrying a gun for defense is the 10 Commandments. The Jewish and Protestant version has the 5th Commandment as "You Shall Not Murder". The Catholic version, which is most widely quoted, is the 6th Commandment which reads "You Shall Not Kill". Literally interpreted the Catholic version says you do not kill for any reason. The Jewish and Protestant version do not say not to kill, they say not to commit murder. IMHO there is a big difference in killing and committing murder. Below is the reference for the 3 different versions.
