Finally - intelligent firearms signage at a store

At the Gander Mountain store in Lake Mary today, I noticed a sign that stated that all firearms being brought into the store for service must be unloaded and checked at Customer Service.

Below this was a note saying that this does not apply to customers lawfully carrying concealed firearms.

Nice to see a store that "gets it".

Haven't been there yet but this sounds like a store with a good policy! So is it worth a drive from the west side for a visit?

It's pretty good - prices are not the lowest, but they have a good selection. Even some scary black rifles.

Handgun ammo is out on shelves, so you don't have to ask for assistance.

I like Gander Mtn. personally. The prices on firearms are so-so, high on something, others are decent. I like not having to ask some high-schooler to get my handgun ammo for me. This policy is yet another reason to go there.

I like Gander Mt., I used to use (mail-order) them before they got gobbled up by Cabela's.

Now I have to drive up to Fredericksburg, Va, since that's the closest store. (bought a used Winchester 1894 on my last visit)

Yes, I've been there. Love it, nice selection on display. FAR more guns than other stores in the area. Can touch and feel the long guns without taking a number and waiting FOREVER like Bass Pro Shop on I'Drive. Prices are so-so, or even high on some things, BUT they advised they were willing to match prices and were going to be doing some price adjusting soon.

My wife was not very impressed, did not have all the glamour and fancy rustic store fixtures like BPS, somewhat of a warehouse feel, but that did not bother me none. They had the reloading supplies I've been looking for and some good buys on cowboy action shooting guns !!!

To quote ParaC6 on this thread (post #10)

I was at the new Gander Mountain yesterday and the sign by the Service Desk said "no loaded weapons allowed in the store" and then just underneath in Paras ( this does not apply to CCW holders)
    Gotta love that !!!

That is refreshing! If people could just think and use a little common sense.

I live about two miles from a Gander Mountain and 45 minutes to a Cabela's.

I don't see any signage at Cabela's. Gander Mountain has a sign to check in with guns at the front desk, but I'm sure it's about trade-ins, service, etc.; it almost goes without saying that those with carry permits should walk right through, which is what we all do. And, even if they wanted us to check them at the front door, "concealed means concealed".

I like the Gander in Sherman, Texas, even though it is one of their smaller stores. Ammo on shelves for customers, long guns in racks available to customers, and generally helpful staff. Pricing is about right on ammo, sidearms priced pretty well, long guns can be priced as "loss leaders" sometimes.

They also have a decent selection of clothes and other gear.

Haven't been there recently to see if they have new signage, though. Got to love it if that's a new corporate policy!

Same type of sign up here in a local gun/ sporting good store. From what I understand , they allow their employees to carry as well.
