Of course no one takes seriously the idea of letting all the schoolkids carry guns, but the gist of the cartoon -- that of "armed victims deter criminals" -- is 100% valid, and the cartoon is a smile-bringer even though it's unrealistic.

When I was in HS back in 1969 I made a black powder gun in shop class, my friends made hunting knives, and no one was getting shot. Now they arrest kids for a plastic toy solder with a molded in gun and freak shows have free reign with guns in school. Arm someone who is sane for heavens sake.

It is pretty SICK when a 1.5" G.I. Joe "gun" can actually get a kid suspended or expelled from school.

CLEARLY since it is like a 1/100 scale toy replica molded out of plastic, there is not the slightest chance anyone could mistake it for a firing gun in a million years, so the question must be asked, "What are they punishing, then?"

    And the answer is...

    thought.

They are punishing kids for presenting unpopular ideas. To wit, the idea that guns are not bad in and of themselves.

Has to be: no one can mistakenly think that the toy G.I. Joe gun can be any more dangerous than a wooden toothpick, which is the same size and probably stiffer.

This is most certainly an ideological WAR going on. We have to expand the education of people in the realm of common sense, so that they oppose these insane policies when they see them enacted.

When you could carry in school

I grew up in a little town in the hill country of texas,I graduated in 1960.The opening day of deer season was a major event. There were a lot of days that my friends and I would carry our rifles to school and put them in our lockers after hunting in the morning or ready to go in the afternoon. The principal and teachers just said, make sure they are unloaded.Nobody ever thought anything about it.I guess that was a whole different generation back then..sj

    HaHa ! I love it.
I remember when going to school about 90% of the students drove pick-up trucks. In the back window of these trucks was a gun rack with a rifle and shotgun, or rifle and fishing pole. There was more fire power there than the town PD and county sheriff dept. combined.
Now look at the mess going on....how in the heck did it all turn around ? I say lazy parental guidance and the lack of a proper school butt beating by a teacher with a paddle !
