Another Wisconsinite here. Not required for the state CCW license, but I did choose to take the NRA First Steps Pistol Course to satisfy the training requirement instead. Our range supplied their own "proprietary" targets, 18"x30" torso targets. Not that I needed that big of a target; a 4 inch circle would have sufficed for me .

I think you answered your own question.

There are quite a few states that do not require any testing. Georgia's one of 'em.

I always practice with 8" targets, though, regardless of distance.

Way back when I was living in Georgia, I called the sheriff's office and asked them what I needed to get a concealed weapons license. The deputy replied "you need 58 dollars cash and two thumbs we can fingerprint". I still chuckle when I think about his answer!

Yep. Still the same, only a few more bucks. You only need to be breathing and have a clean record. And preferably not shot off one of your thumbs.

Most instructors in NC use a B27 size target at 3, 5, and 7 yards.

To the OP, any other NC specific questions that you have feel free to ask.

Correct, Iowa no longer requires live fire. My wife and I took a CC class in 2012. No test, no live fire.

When I took my first test in 1983 they put up a 30" round target, It looked like an archery target. I asked the Deputy what score I needed. He said put 10 rounds through your gun and if I find 7 holes you pass. I was thinking this must be like a 100 yard test, but we backed up around 10 yds and He said shoot from here. I was going to make a smiley face but decided against it. I ended up with 3 clover leaf clusters and a stray, then I got to worrying whether he would count the holes as 4! He had moved down and was watching two gals shoot. One passed with seven and the other failed. He still hadn't even looked in the direction of my target when he handed me my card. So I asked , He said all he was looking at was if I could get the gun out of the holster, fire it, and reholster safely. He didn't really care what I hit!
Ive got an appointment next mo to sign up again in the same county, We will see what has changed. DR

    Target?

    Welcome to the forum!

Here in Virginia no targer shooting required -- you are good to go with any firearms training or safety course or class, including an electronic, video, or on-line course, conducted by a state-certified or National Rifle Association-certified firearms instructor w/ or w/o hands on -- and that's assuming you don't have a DD214, or have never taken hunter safety course, or have participation in organized shooting competition, or completing any other firearms training which the court deems adequate.

We don't have to test in PA, but when I do drills, I use a standard IDPA target.

No test here in Montana but we are also an OPEN CARRY state. Everyone up here has a gun or 2 or 3....... To get a CCW all you have to do is fill out the application, supply $50, $5 more for fingerprints, supply the documentation of a class or credentials to handle a handgun and pass the background check.....all done by the local Sheriffs Office.
