For mine, it was human torso targets...
I Shoot Birds With A Canon.
All depends on the state requirements and the instructor. I would think most use torso targets of some type.

The great state of Wisconsin doesn't think it's necessary for a cc permit holder to be able to qualify at the range. Sit through a four hour class and you're armed and dangerous. Personally, I like the idea of my fellow carriers being able to hit what they are aiming at. To answer your question, practice on the smallest target you can and you'll be able to hit anything they put in front of you

The instructor used torso.
My nephew and his associate use torso as well when instructing for their classes.

Going to vary by state requirements. If I remember correctly, when I qualified on Oklahoma many years ago we used the B27 Black Police Silhouette Target.

In Missouri... we use the B-27 target like Texas and other states do. Fun Fact.... The B-27 target was actually designed around Al Capone's body type for reasons I'm sure you all can figure out.

I had to shoot the FBI q target. Now I believe you don't have to shoot in Iowa to get the permit but can just shoot to renew or take course over
