    Question Why Concealed Carry?

What caused you to begin carrying concealed?

There are so many newcomers to concealed carry (which is great!) I always wonder what made them decide to start doing so.

I realize there were probably a number of factors for most of us, so please answer in terms of which of the following was the MOST important factor in causing you to start carrying concealed?

If I've left something out, let me know and I'll try to add it.

Not because I had a specific threat, but because I could. There are a lot more reasons to cc than not to carry.

    1. I can't legally open carry.
    2. Only option is CC.
    3. With CWFL--no waiting period.

    1- Because I can.
2- Because concealed gives me the advantage of surprise.
3- Because of the unknown. I want to be able to protect my family to the best of my abilities.
4- Because the Constitution says so. ;) (not exactly but you get the point)

Because I am responsible for my own safety and well-being, and that of my family. In other words, none of the above.

Because I want to be left alone... someone wants to bother me then I am ready for it. Plus I can.

    Re: Why Concealed Carry?

Because I am a husband and i started to see just how fragile this world is. One thing gets out of place and this whole world goes crazy.

'All of the above' would probably apply to most of us (self included) but I suspect most who are new to cc, have been eligible to do so for years. I'm wondering what got them past "thinking about it", and into actually "doing it".

I'd thought about getting a concealed carry permit for years, but never followed through until my husband decided to get his. He encouraged me to join him in the training classes and permit application process. If not for his support, I'm sure I'd still just be "thinking" about doing it.

The thing that caused HIM to finally take action, was a change in state law that significantly broadened the number of places you can legally carry. Prior to that change, the long list of off-limits places made carrying more problematic than it is now.

I guess I need to add that to the list of poll answers.

Edited to add: Darn. I don't see any way to edit the poll choices. Oh well.

It is my right as a US citizen to be armed according to the 2nd Amendment. My state of WI realized I had that right & gave us a concealed carry law in November of 2011. I had carried as an Armed Security Officer & Private Detective but that was under different rules. When I retired from that I felt naked & vulnerable until we elected a Republican Governor & State Legislature who knew the Constitution & Bill of Rights of the USA.

I actually had absolutely no desire to carry until I got married and had kids. I guess it's paternal instincts, but my desire to protect my family and myself grew much stronger as I adjusted to my new role as a dad.
