Yes it is a right of passage. Ive done it for so long now its second nature to me now. But first time I was a bit nervous. Youll get over it.
I always wince when I see forum threads on the "Wally walk" - which is a harmless and legal activity. Yet IMHO the more this gets talked about the greater the chance Walmart will post no gun signs (btw, I understand the concept about signs and the force of law).
My wife and I used to travel the country in an RV. Walmarts were a commonly known place to park for the night, buy a few groceries, go to sleep in your rig, then leave in the morning. Eventually every motorhome/RVing forum contained threads about the practice. More and more people began stopping, setting up their lawn chairs and grilling in the parking lot. And guess what? - Wally decided they didn't want the campers there and "no overnight parking" signs starting going up. Around here, all now prohibit overnight parking. My point, too much publicity and a few not so smart campers ruined a good thing.
Even though a 3/4 ton pickup with 34ft fifth wheel camper is more visible than a properly concealed handgun it isn't hard for me to imagine a time where walmart decides they don't want CC in their stores and posts signs. How will they know people carry there? Because we are telling them. The fall out from signs would be bad for us, good for the anti's.
IMO CC $ spends just as good as anti gun $$ and WM doesn't care which they are getting. Considering they get a big chunk of $ from legal gun owners making us angry would be counterproductive .
My CHL is "in the mail", literally! Looking forward to my first Wally Walk!
Might have to add Hardware, Car Care and the Shoe Dept (for Steel Toed Boots, of course) to the proposed Diagram above. LOL

Years ago someone posted a map of the wally walk... any idea where that is?
I just told my wife she will have to do the Wally Walk... I think I just made a mistake.
It went on, and on..."I don't have to do anything I don't want to do. Don't tell me about any walk I have to do"
"Gun Free Zones" is where only criminals carry guns.
Its the first store that I went to after I got my CHL... For ammo, of course.
My CCW should arrive in a few weeks, I'm preparing for the Wally Walk, unfortunately I see two problems.
1: I don't like Nachos
2: I don't eat store bought meat (I eat fish or game, I have a freezer full of venison right now) so I won't buy steaks or ribs.
Is there an ecceptable substitute for those two items?
And what do we do about the ammo part when they don't have any????
