My girlfriend, put in an application for her
Cpl this morning. After getting fingerprinted at the sheriff's office the woman doing the fingerprints said she'd be getting a letter in the mail, my girlfriend asked, for the date and time for her to go in front of the gun board and the woman replied, there's a new law going into effect and letter will let her know if she will be able to get cpl at all

Maybe it is some updated requirements not sure really, just a guess on my part.

I believe there was a recent law proposed eliminating county gun boards, not sure if it passed or not. Are you sure the clerk wasn't referring to that and that the letter would specify if she would be required to appear before the gun board?
I got mine a couple of years ago and still wasn't required to appear before one. Depends how pro/anti your county is.

You sit in front of the gun board, they ask you have you ever had any mental health issues, if you ever been on medication for depression , and if you lied about anything. then they vote if you get approved they hand your permit at the end of the counter

I didn't have to appear before any board members, but they do exist and apparently had to meet to approve my application. Check on migunowners.com for more info in their legislative section. There are links to new laws that have been passed.
Good luck!

Like the tax code & health insurance regulations, the gun restrictions (I can't say they're "laws") are now changing so swiftly & their interpretation now so nebulous that no justice on The Supreme Court, much less anyone on this forum, can any longer creditably answer these sorts of questions!

Remember that MI is a "shall issue" state, so if she is honest and has a good record there is no reason she would be denied. If she is, she can contest it.

In my county (Ottawa) I was required to go before a 'gun board'. All the approvals were completed beforehand.
The purpose of the board is to have you swear to the truthfulness of your paperwork and reaffirm your answers to several questions.
And at the end of the very brief process, they hand out the card.
As to any recent changes to ccw in Michigan...the new law/laws passed last year were more or less...positive.
Perhaps the lady behind the desk just wasn't up to speed...knowing only that something new was coming.
I'd wouldn't lose sleep over her passing comment.

Very much this^
I was getting very anxious about going before a gun board, even though I knew I had nothing to worry about I get like that in those sorts of situations. Anyway, a week or so after I turned my paperwork in I got a letter in the mail with my licence. All that worry for nothing.

MI is a shall-issue state. Gun-boards are an antiquated part of the process and I believe they were recently outed. It's nothing but a formality that many people (myself included) never actually had to go through.
