Any NY or CA CCW Permit Holders?

I'm curious how many NY or CA permit holders are one here. If so, what part of the state (generally) are you in and how did you get one? And no, I'm not a spy for Feinswine or Bloomberg, I've read about some counties being virtually no issue and others being the polar opposite, I'm interested in the reality.

I am from NY.. In my county (Dutchess) they only issue non-restricted permits and it took me 9 months.. But I applied last May before all the craziness started.. I am sure the wait will be longer now..

Some counties you will get a target/hunting first then you can usually get a CCW (Putnam), others you will rarely get a CCW without a fight (Westchester)..

I live in the very center of CA. In conservative country. Here a carry permit is very easy to get for a law abiding citizen. In the large population centers they are almost impossible to get. In San Francisco they wont even issue them to their cops for off duty carry. DR

It is very unlikely that you'll find an ordinary citizen in NYC with a concealed carry. I lived there for most of my 68 years and I know of only two people who have CCLs and both were business people who got their licenses back in the day when you got a pistol license from a police captain at a "gun friendly" precinct if you understand what I mean. Once they got their CCLs, they were grandfathered in as restrictions were later imposed.

Today, I've been told, all carry applicants are immediately turned down and you need to retain a lawyer for an appeal. The process could take a year or more. That is why Bernie Getz carried a firearm illegally to protect himself and did end up using it. He subsequently went to jail.

While I believe DC is a great forum for everything CCW related, I suggest California Concealed Weapon (CCW) Forum if you're really serious about finding out the process to get a CA CCW by the county you live in.

Lived in CA for many years, in a fairly remote/rural county that has always been heavily supportive of armed citizens. Obtained a CHL there under various sheriffs.

Yes, it's true. While the whole state (CA) is might-never-issue, with the decision up to the county sheriff in the county where you live, in many counties essentially all it takes for one to justify sufficient need to carry is to write down "for all lawful purposes." Myself, I've had a number of actual situations and close calls, so documenting specific practical ramifications of not having the ability to defend myself was always straightforward.

Of course, that can change immediately upon an anti-gun gun-grabber getting elected as sheriff in a given county.

That said, I'll say I breathed a great sigh of relief once I moved to a shall-issue state. By comparison, it's a breath of fresh air, as compared to the suffocating, knee-jerk attitudes of the state assembly and the continuing surges of statutory criminality with which they threaten the citizens of the state. Beautiful place, befouled though it is in many ways, beyond recognition compared to what it once was. Sad.

Which is totally irrelevant. They can already carry off-duty, by virtue of their LEO credentials.
Even if there were some absurd state law and/or department policy that only allowed carry by virtue of LEO status while on-duty, it would be superseded by federal law (LEOSA).

I have been issued a CCW from the Placer County Sheriff. As noted it depends upon what county you reside in. some are impossible, unless you are a senator, some very difficult and costly and some more liberal .

Thanks for taking the time to get one. It may not be said alot but for those of working the streets in Sac, especially my fiancee' and I in Sac County, appreciate it and feel better knowing good people are carrying.

Here in Stanislaus Co., CA they are relatively easy to get but the wait for an interview is forever for first timers. I took my renewal class on the 16th, delivered my paperwork to the SO on the 19th and got a call today to come and get it. Sheriff Christianson is real stand up guy when it comes to the 2A.

To OP, regardless of if you are a Nanny State Spy, why would we want to advertize in this Anti-gun climate?

I'm Western New York, right on Lake Erie, Erie County. Counties presently allowed to place restrictions, (they are county ordinances not State Gun Law), on the State Carry Permit, and all State permits are CCW. Some counties have restrictions, some don't. Erie is supposedly tough but they were all very friendly in Permit Office and other agencies and I got a Business Carry first year. Two days and one year later got an Unrestricted. Counties that are really tough are near NYC, and NYC itself is close to impossible to get a CCW - but NYC has their own Gun Laws.

One County next to mine is cake. Unrestricted CCW right off - in no time. Same is true quite a few other counties.

This is all now. We have new Gun Laws at State level - who knows what - if anything - they'll do to make it more centrally controlled to get a permit?
