Huffington Post having it both ways

Don't shoot the messanger...I read the Huffpost.

Anyways, today the headline story on the Huffpost is "98 Days since Newtown- 2243 Dead" and is basically a tally of all the gun deaths in America since Newtown.

Yet one of their stories today is "9 Workers Who Got Fired For Completely Ridiculous Reasons" The very first of the 9 cases is and I quote...

Fired For Stopping A Robbery- An AutoZone employee was fired after he stopped a thief from robbing the store. Devin McClean used his own gun to ward off the robber, leading the management to fire him two days later.

9 Workers Who Got Fired For Completely Ridiculous Reasons

So, according to the Huffpost guns are bad...yet an employee who is carrying a gun at work and uses it to defend himself is ok.

    Ahh, Orwell's Doublethink in action.
Badey and Rock and Glock like this.

So.....what do you want them to do? They can report what they want and how they want. They did not spin anything. Yeah, they have an agenda by having the gun deaths on the home page.

Agian, so do you want them to only report one side? Do you disagree with the article about the Autozone person getting fired.

    You whaaaaaaat? O!, the humanity.

I, too, read a wide range of sources. Helps understand a wider range of issues, opinions, attitudes.

It is confusing, at times. Until one realizes the brainwashing going on. Gets me in a "Huff," too.

Crime and criminals are bad. Stigmatizing, ostracizing and outright prosecuting folks for daring to protect their very lives against criminals is all bad. Once upon a time, we as a society appreciated this. Time to liberate the mind from its shackles, lest we live in chains the remainder of our lives. May we all become "liberals" in this regard. And that, right quick.

Wait. You say they didn't spin anything, yet you admit they have an agenda in the very next sentence? Just because they have a moment of clarity in the autozone piece doesn't mean they are reporting both sides. Huffpo is clearly anti-gun. They DO only report one side.

I firmly believe in reading the opposite side's viewpoints! What better way to understand the way they think and pick apart their arguments than to do it with their own written material! Of course you can't do too much reading or you might end up saying "dafuq did I just read?!"

Reporting is one thing. So long as it has balance and remains un-slanted, with high standards on factual presentation and zero ideology, fine.

Editorializing is something else entirely. Where it gets sticky is when (in some rags) "reported" stories are editorials in masquerade.

In the instance of these two articles, seems to me it's fairly straight reporting. Though, like, say, the Orlando Sentinel and the NY Times, they tend to lean to one end of the teeter-totter.

How many folks here actually read the Huffington Post? Or do you just read the articles that folks post here and form an opinion about them? I am not gun org bashing here at all but let me just say that I am on a anti website and I saw some of the articles that are pro 2A organization websites I would think that they are bat crazy right nutcases.

That is because I am only seeing the whacked out stuff or things I would disagree with.

Huff post is not all that bad about reporting factual information in the news sections. Many folks get that confused with their editorial stance which is left leaning. I think the Huff post does a good job seperating the two.

HuffPo is basically the liberal answer to Fox News. Both are mostly propaganda with a little bit of real news. That said, I do read HuffPo on rare occasion. Slate is better although they never saw a gun they didn't hate.

Yes I have, and Sean, and Rush, and Chris, and Ed..... I believe that you have to keep up with both sides, actually listen with an open mind and form your own opinion on things. Seperate the crap from the crap and use your own brain.

I don't toe a party line.... if others do, it takes all kinds.
