New Mexico Honors South Carolina – Kansas to Honor All – Other Info

New Mexico has added South Carolina to the list of states it honors. They are NOT reporting a signed agreement. They have been saying for the last year they wanted signed agreements. Time will tell. You can view the NM DPS and the SC Listing Here: Reciprocity Agreements | New Mexico Department of Public Safety

Kansas will begin honoring all other states permit/licenses starting July 1, 2013. This brings to 16 the number of states that will honor all other states permit/licenses or no permit/license is required to carry. The Governor signed it April 5th. http://kslegislature.org/li/b2013_14...21_00_0000.pdf

The Utah Governor vetoed a Constitutional Carry Bill. There is talk of an override but from all I read it will be difficult.

As everyone is aware Colorado, Maryland and New York passed very restrictive gun laws. A few other states are talking about more restrictions. Again time will tell but we are not losing ground in most states and are actually gaining.

More states are passing pro gun and pro carry laws. I have been busy trying to keep up with all the changes. Many will not take effect until a legislature has adjourned for a set time period or by a certain date like Kansas and July 1. I want to thank those who have sent me information. It is very much appreciated because without your assistance I couldn’t keep Handgunlaw.us as up to date as it is. Again Thank You!

It will be July 1 until the Kansas info is added and other changes will be added on a timely basis unless it is of critical importance. My next scheduled update is Friday April 12, 1013.

Gary you do a wonderful job keeping people informed about the firearm laws across the US.

However, people need to be careful about New Mexico. It does not put in writing agreements with other states. That is why LA does not honor New Mexico, although NM honors Louisiana at this time.

There was an agreement with NM that LA permits would be honored. Then someone in NM decided one monring that LA permits would not be honored and never notified LASP or anyone in LA that their permits would not be honored. So LA made a written decision to not honor NM permits. Then NM decided it would honor LA permits but would not put it in writing. So LA residents might be honored by NM today but when a NM trooper stops you, they may not be honoring LA permits any more.

Whomever is running the operation in NM is apparently doing anything in writing. Many of my associates have hunted in NM but now we are afraid to do so due to their lack of paperwork.

Carry in NM at your own risk.

I believe the new Maryland laws take effect October 1st, but from what I have seen they didn't change anything related to CC laws, but they don't issue many or recognize any other State.

Gary...Thanks for all you do Sir...
Sometimes in life you have to stand your ground. It's a hard lesson to learn and even most adults don't get it, but in the end only I can be responsible for my life. If faced with any type of adversity, only I can overcome it. Waiting for someone else to take responsibility is a long fruitless wait.

Oldman45, You are correct about NM. They made a lot of states mad. I talked to the people in Ohio, West Virginia and Louisiana when NM dropped them and they had no idea and they had signed agreements. OH and WV added NM back but LA won't and I don't blame them. It was one man in the NM Firearms Unit who caused all the problems.
