    Travel to GA

    1st time leaving FL cc.

Going to GA over the Memorial day holiday. Been reading up on their cc laws, similar to FL. I thought I read they have open carry? Am I correct? Anything I might need to know so I don't have any issues while visiting?

    Thanks in advance.

Stay CC...Memorial Day equals drunken fools.

    Just my humble opinion.

So true. I'm not gonna open carry, I don't want to be the 1st 1 shot at the 7-11 when the idiot walks in to rob the place! I don't need to advertise, I just like the security, and I think the odds are better if I can surprise the thief if needed.

Georgia has a Weapons Carry Permit. You carry your weapon how you wish. It applies to firearms as well as fixed blade knives. I prefer to cc but many people in GA open carry. If I was visiting I would conceal so it would be a non-issue.

Please conceal. In my humble GA redneck opinion open carry is a little to blatant and provocative.

Also I believe the GA has a holster requirement even for in car carry, I'll look that up

Nope they apparently don't have that law

If you OC in College Park, or East Point, you will probably get attacked by gangs better armed than you.

However, if you OC in Roswell, or Buckhead, the residents will probably call in MWAG reports.

If, however, you OC in MY county (Gwinnett), just be sure to bring your English/Spanish and your English/Korean dictionaries with you.

It applies to fixed blades or folders with a blade over 5".

Until a few years ago a holster was required to conceal a firearm while carrying. That's the only holster law I'm aware of us having since I've been carrying.

    To the OP,
Enjoy your trip and carry however you wish. Georgia is generally a very firearm friendly state.

There is no substitute for reading the laws, but if you have questions the site to look at is Welcome to GeorgiaPacking.org. They have a lot of good information on where you can and cannot carry, local ordinances, etc.

Oh, and while OC is legal here, I would stick to CC unless you are way outside of Atlanta. I have nothing aganst OC, but CC will make for a better experience while you're here.

Yes, we have OC. Stay off of campuses with a gun. Don't go into a church. Stay out of public buildings. Don't go shooting if you're intoxicated, duh. You can carry in restaurants - even the bar area. You can't carry into dedicated bars.

Thanks to all, I know the state pretty well as I spent a few years living in Ala. Roll Tide.....(sorry). Drove for a grocery company out of Anniston. Going to Dawsonville to visit friends who moved there from FL. I am definitely gonna cc as I really don't like to advertise my position. Thanks for the Georgia Carry : An information clearinghouse for Georgia Firearms License issues and news web site, have been there already but will visit several times to make sure I'm on top of the law. Went to the actual state of Ga site for laws also. If open carry comes to FL. I think I'll pass!

Attended a meeting where the Gwinnett County District Attorney spoke. He said Gwinnett County does not issue a "bar" license, so anyplace in the county that serves food and alcohol is a restaurant. There are no places that serve only alcohol.

At least GA honors FL permits. They don't honor VA. Bummer.

Georgia honors the license/permit of any state that honors ours.
