Finished CCW class N.C.
First time poster long time lurker
..I took the CCW class Sat
I'm getting the paperwork started this week..I will be carrying a S&W model 442 w/ pachy gripper grips.. I do have a ?..I have a (old,1943) Star model B 9mm 1911 clone, which may carry during winter months.. I am getting it gone thru with new springs and some polish after seeing that it won't eject the cases(may need a new ejector too).. I was just wondering if a gun this old would hold up with regular shooting? Does anyone have experience with these?? I just love the feel of the pistol and the wife does too, she wouldn't even fire the J-frame last time we went. She will be taking the class(CCW) soon too.

I would think the old Star should be possible to bring up to full spec and totally reliable. Only using std pressure ammo tho.
You mentioned ejector but I think you meant extractor - and that IMO could well be a vital item to replace.
Steve Camp's opinion would interest me and could be useful - tho not sure if he has owned or shot that specific 1911 platform. His excellent site could be worth a browse anyways, regardless -

welcome..
I have a cabin in NC and love the fact you can open carry. I plan on moving on day to my cabin. Was it very hard to get your ccw in NC?

Pretty easy here. 8 hour class and 40 round qualification. Plus background check of course.

You're right down the road from me. This is too funny.

Not hard for NC CCW.
Take an approved class (About $75-120) that lasts 8-12 hours. This includes an overview of NC laws and ccw "dos and don'ts", a basic handgun familiarization, and a multiple choice written and live fire tests.
After you complete the class, you take the certificate of completion to your local Sheriff’s department and get your application for the permit. Fill it out and when you submit it you will have your finger prints taken, and you pay the fee ($90).
Then you wait. Depending on which county you are in the wait will vary. My permit took only about a week, but my info is on file with the county (work). My wife's permit also only took about a week, so I am not sure if it is the norm.
The permits are good for 5 years, and it can be used as your purchase permit, so DO NOT pay to get a lot of extra purchase permits, they would be wasted.
Good luck.
BTW, what part of NC??
