    That is the debris channel. It allows for debris to be discarded if any is present or if the pistol is dropped in dirt, water, etc. Some do plug it, but it will function the same either way.

    and there is a thread running there about why Glocks have an open cavity in the butt behind the mag well and if that cavity should or should not be plugged.

    Please tell me why the cavity is there and the purpose of it if any...(internal gas release, etc...etc...).and will it harm the weapon if plugged.

    Don't think I'm buying there answer...."debris channel" ?? but it was nice of them to reply....but I would have said "gaseous pressure escape tunnel". It would have sounded better.....
