    good weekend (Kinda long)

Let me start by saying that my father never has shot a gun in his life nor does he like automatic guns. He is a revolver guy because he thinks they are safer. So my father surprised me this weekend by asking me if he can take him to the range so he can shot with me. I always ask him to go and he always had to do something that day. So before going to the range went over some safety tips and showed him how to handle my gun. It turns out that my dad is a pretty good shot. After his first reaction of the recoil he got more comfortable with the gun and started shooting like a pro. Had a good stance and held the gun real nice. He was a little tense because he thought the gun was going to fly right out of his hand. The range was a great time and now I feel more comfortable leaving my gun at home because he knows how to use it now. That wasn't the best part.

So range time is done and he wanted to look at guns to see what he likes. (Who would turn down looking at guns with their dad?) He was really interested and had a lot of questions about all the guns. Since I have been on this site I have learned a lot and had all the answers. He was pretty impressed on the amount of info I new. He looks at a S&W 642 and said that is the gun. Looks at it, holds it and says this will be the gun I will carry for my CCW. I was like what He said he wants to get his CCW for his birthday. So guess what dad is getting for his bday? Nice shinny S&W 642. I will be going to get it for him because his bday is Nov 20. I am super excited and can't wait to go out as a family with 2 people CCWing.

Oh ya mom really wants to get hers so he can carry a .22. Love it

Nothing better than shared interest and to have your Dad ''come round'' to a semi - as seems the case - is even better. Then the cream on the cake huh - he's getting his CCW.!!!

Enjoy your time with Dad - mine is long gone and the few times we had shooting are fond memories.

    Sounds like a GREAT day.

When I take my boys to the range, ages 14 and 11, I always ask my dad to come along, and of course he always says YES.

We end up having 3 generations together having a Great time.

I still have my first gun that my dad gave me when I was 6 years old, it is a Winchester model 131 bolt action .22 rifle, and we still bring it to the range.

    Good memories

    Good Weekend?

Other than riding a Harley...they don't get much better than yours...

Hope your mom doesn't make you look bad at the range...women can do that...

    Enjoy your family time!

A Great Day for you and your dad. My dad has been dead for 12 years and now some of the things I have left are the memories of shooting, buying guns and hunting with him. Great Day for you.

It's great that you have that kind of relationship. I won't tell my dad that I carry because he probably wouldn't approve of it. He's only shot a gun once in his life and he's almost eighty.

One of my favorite past-times is hunting with my dad. Have been since I was 12. Glad you can have that fun experience of shared interest too.
