    45 acp defensive ammo alternative

I have been shooting Federal Classic ACP 185gr JHP which works perfectly in my KAHR P9. Can't find more. Have been finding Aguila 45 ACP 185 gr JHP, for similar price and available. Does anyone have any experience with this ammo? Is there is a difference in performance between the two?

They make a .38 Special Soft Tip Hollow Point for comparable money to most others' FMJ. I have shot it often and it has always performed reliably, consistently, and cleanly. I recommend their stuff from what I've seen.

I'm confused... 185 JHP works perfectly in your Kahr P9? The P9 is a 9mm, no?

I'd say that in a .45ACP, specific ammunition choice is probably less important than it is in a 9mm or .40 cal. After all, flying ashtrays usually hurt regardless of what color they are.

I don't know if Aguila is a "premium" ammo manufacturer, but I'd say that they are at least two steps up the ladder from "Tulammo". If it cycles reliably in your pistol, I'd call it good.

I carry 200gr. XTP reloads in my AMT Backup .45. Any decent, modern JHP should be fine as long as it is reliable in your gun.

He should have written "subject". He has a P45. Fitch

I carry 230gr HP standard rem. or win. and they work well for me in my G36.

IMO heavy slower rounds in 45acp deliver more energy to the target than faster lighter loads in +P etc.

The 45acp has been the work horse of defensive rounds for over 100yrs.

If it goes bang and the gun functions properly. Use it. As far a bullet weights, The heavier bullets, 200 to 230 gr., seem to be preferred by most folks. Look at it this way: Would you rather have Nolan Ryan throwing 7/8 of a brick at you or Sandy Koufax throwing a whole brick at you. It doesn't matter.
