Always keep one in the chamber!
Yet another example of why you should get familiar with your gun, gain confidence in its' safety features and carry with a round in the chamber!
This poor guy got his
beat with a baseball bat, even though he was armed and licensed to carry concealed! And all because he was carrying without a round in the chamber!
Man with bat beats Crime Stoppers chief
Central Ohio Crime Stoppers President Kevin Miles had to draw his handgun to stop a man from beating him with a baseball bat on Sunday, he said.
"Fortunately for him I didn’t have a bullet in the chamber," Miles said of his attacker, described only as a light-haired white man in his late 20s.

I usually carry "two" rounds in the chamber just to be doubly sure. :)
Seriously, how sad but sometimes life's greatest lessons take an a** whooping to learn. I hope he carries his gun ready for use from now on.

Fortunately for you sir - you lived to tell the tale
(Anyways - it ain't ''bullet'' - it is ''round'' or ''cartridge''. I am feeling pedantic today!)

Please don't let this thread turn into another Condition 1 VS Israeli Carry hot debate.
We just finished one of those not too long ago.

Maybe he was carrying a muzzle loader or a cap and ball, then he could have needed a bullet in his weapon er, pistol, er defensive piece of metal er whatever.....

Sorry 'lead moderator', from one Pennsylvanian to another. Had not noticed your 'title' when I did that last post. Will try not to do that again.

It's like showing up to a track meet and getting in the blocks ready to run with a plan to tie your untied shoes, just after the starters gun goes off.
If you're going to show up why handicap yourself?

But if someone takes your gun from you and tries to use it on you it won't fire because there isn't a round in the chamber ready to fire. That could save your life. I've been told this anyway. I wouldn't know, mine goes bang when you pull the trigger.

Scott,
If I were the BG I'd have done just that, hit his good arm with the bat (and broken it good), disarmed him, cycled the slide to clear what I'd assume was a jam, and then from there played God...and the poor guy/victim wouldn't have a thing to say or do about whether I'd let him live or die.
