Change CCW requirements
Anyone have experience or know the shortest way to start the long process of getting a proposed law change on the books. Assault charge in NC makes me ineligible to apply even after 32 years. I now work in correction and am being penalized for self defense at age 20. Chances of change in my lifetime is not likely but someone needs to address it. My neighboring state VA only checks background for 5 years.

Simple assault prevents you from carrying for life? That is pretty tough. There's exactly one way to change a law...get your legislators to introduce legislation to make the change. Most state legislators are pretty approachable people. Give your House member a call and tell him what you'd like done. Be able to show him that states in the area already do what you're wanting and haven't had any problems.

Can you apply for a VA non-resident? NC recognizes that.
Doesn't address the larger issue, but might take care of your personal situation.

My Nephew was charged with some kind of theft. He did some time(short). He got a Lawyer and had it expunged and got his CCW and able to by guns again. Get a Lawyer.
