    Heard back from Sen Feinstein...

    ...Supposedly.

Below is her response to my email in regards to gun control laws and advancement. I'll post my reply in a reply to the thread. I've found that most writings to Public Servants are pre typed, so heres one I drafted up. Feel free to use it with your information if you would like.

    Dear Mr. Garcia:

Thank you for contacting me to share your opposition to laws designed to prevent gun violence. I respect your opinion on this important issue, and I welcome the opportunity to explain my point of view.

Mass shootings are a serious problem in our country, and I have watched this problem get worse and worse over the 40 years I have been in public life. From the 1966 shooting rampage at the University of Texas that killed 14 people and wounded 32 others, to the massacre in Newtown, Connecticut last December that killed 20 children and 6 teachers and administrators, these killings have not gone away but have instead increased in frequency.

I believe there are many causes of gun violence, including violent video games and the scarcity of mental health services. At the same time, however, we cannot ignore another factor in many of these deadly massacres: easy access to military-style weapons. Recent studies show that when an assault weapon is used in a shooting, more people die and more people are injured than when a less lethal gun is used. I believe we need reasonable measures to get military-style weapons off our streets.

While the Second Amendment provides an individual the right to bear arms, but I do not believe that right precludes the government from taking reasonable steps to prevent mass shootings. Indeed, in the Supreme Court decision that recognized the individual right to bear arms, District of Columbia v. Heller, the Court also held that this right, like other constitutional rights, is not unlimited. That is why assault weapons bans have consistently been upheld in the courts, both before and after the Heller decision.

I was the sponsor of the Assault Weapons Ban that Congress passed into law in 1994. As you may know, the ban expired in 2004. On January 24, 2013, I introduced the "Assault Weapons Ban of 2013" (S. 150), a bill to stop the sale, transfer, importation and manufacturing of military-style assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition feeding devices. I am proud that major law enforcement organizations, such as the International Association of Chiefs of Police and Major Cities Chiefs of Police, support the Assault Weapons Ban. The bill is also supported by over 170 public health, religious, and child welfare groups. On April 17, 2013, I offered the Assault Weapons Ban of 2013 as an amendment to the "Safe Communities, Safe Schools Act of 2013" (S. 649). While I am disappointed that the amendment was not agreed to, I remain encouraged by the strong support that the bill has received. I will continue to fight to keep these weapons of war out of our communities.

Although we do not agree on this issue, please know that I appreciate knowing your views and will keep your thoughts in mind if I have the opportunity to consider other gun safety legislation in the future. Best regards.

    Sincerely yours,

    Dianne Feinstein
    United States Senator

    Here's my drafted response:

    Ms Feinstein,

I recently reread your response to my correspondence I sent you in regards to gun control and gun bans. I was both pleased and discouraged at your response. On the one hand, I was glad to see that you acknowledged the lifestyle of today’s generation (video games, music, and the biggest, a lack of mental health help) yourself and the POTUS both acknowledged a need for extreme work in these fields in response to recent shootings. However, neither one of you has provided that solution. You introduced bans to weapons, not tighter age regulations to violent materials. You introduced more inclusive background checks, not more funding to mental health research and therapy. You've delivered on everything except what the real answers are. While I completely understand your position on trying to reduce these violent acts and I would like to see that happen. However, your proposals are not the way to go about it. I challenge you to find the last time that a LEGAL gun owner committed such atrocious crimes. Find the last time that someone legally purchased a handgun/rifle, legally acquired a concealed carry permit/license and then turned around and committed mass murders. Your intentions are good spirited but they are ill-advised.
A majority of gun violence is committed by illegal aliens. Where is the legislation to cure that issue? Why provide amnesty to criminals? Some of the biggest mass murders were all by mentally ill individuals. Where is the legislation to further research on mental health? Newton, stolen firearms, mentally ill individual. Aurora, mentally ill individual. Columbine, mentally ill individuals. Every moment spent punishing the good and the law abiding is time spent stomping on the graves of those lost. Look at some of the states that boast the toughest gun laws in the nation and what do you find? The highest gun crime rate in the nation is the answer. If gun control and legislation is the answer, why does it not work in Southern California? Why does it not work in Chicago, Illinois? Why does New York boast the SAFE act and have some of the worst murder/firearm assaults in the US?
California has recently sponsored gun buy backs. This in turn has left thousands of families defenseless. We’ve even gone as far to have children turn in NERF toy guns. We have taken a childhood toy that has been around for decades in fear that children will grow to be mass murderers. Did you ever play with a NERF gun or water squirt gun as a child ma’am? Did you become a mass murderer? I did not think so.
Your response to my email stated everything that is wrong with politicians serving on the “Hill” It was all about what your beliefs were, what you felt needed to be done, what you thought was the answer. With all due respect Senator, your voice is not what you represent on Capitol Hill. It is my voice. It is my family’s voice. It is the voice of the other 35+ million constituents here in the great state of California that you serve. We don’t need you to do what you think is right. We need you to do what we as a majority voice, and in that billet you have failed.
I have given blood and years to this great country. I’ve lost friends and family to wars, both overseas and here in America. Every time you do what you think is best for us, you spit on their grave markers. We don’t vote for what you think is best. We vote for you because you are supposed to represent your constituents.
Elected officials are protected by armed escorts? Why? Because they are there to defend your life from danger. From those who seek to do you harm. Why is that you are able to protect yourself and we are not? Why is your life more important than ours? Your life is just as precious as mine, my wife’s, my 3 year old niece and my 80 year old grandparents.
Whenever you and the rest of the PUBLIC SERVANTS on Capitol Hill remember their oath of office and decide to work hand in hand with their constituents, the legal gun owners and citizens of America would love to sit down and help solve this epidemic that is destroying us.

    Sincerely,
    Corporal Kyle Allan Garcia
    United States Marine Corps
Defender of the United States Constitution and Your Freedom.

Your response is excellent, but I doubt there will be a response to it. She had her say and she won't be swayed except in the voters booth.

40 years in public life? Notice she didn't state "Public Service". She's a Perfect reason for term limits.

Nicely done though I think you should put more emphasis on Chicago. Let me go outside and get you some fresh blood to sign that.

If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.
