    Anyone traveled Greyhound *recently*?

I'm looking to take a short trip via bus to the adjascent state for the weekend at the end of the month. Has anyone used Greyhound recently? How difficult would it be to carry any defensive tools with me on the trip? (ie, a folding knife, pepper spray, a baton, etc..) as I know firearms are not allowed on the lines at all. Are carry-on bags checked? stowed bags checked? What's the word. The thought of going out of state with no means of self defense bothers me.. especially since I'm going to Atlanta.

    Thanks

(gave thought to taking my Nano in stowed luggage in a quick access safe and just leaving it buried in my clothes, but I've heard that dogs are used that alert to firearms.)

I've never traveled on the line and was not even aware no guns were allowed by legal permit holders thus I'm certain it's not likely I ever would use the rights hating line.

Sorry but I just recently heard here that Greyhound did not allow it. It's been 20+years since I rode GH or a Trailways bus.

Any chance you could have your friends in Atlanta come to you instead? Entertaining is always fun...sometimes not?

I once had to travel from Kansas City back to my hometown Omaha once. It was one of the most miserable experiences in my recent history but that's a whole other story.

But there were no dogs sniffing bags or any real form of security beyond an off duty LEO that looked like he was better at drinking coffee and chatting up the counter folks than he would be at preventing or responding to real crime.

edit: concealed carry was definitely not allowed on Greyhound

I once took Greyhound from Warner Robins, GA, to Charlotte, NC. With all the stops at every two-bit gas station along the way, I could have walked faster.

Laughable... My son came to visit me via greyhound last month. there is NO security other than written policy. You buy your ticket, stand in line, the driver checks your ticket, put your valise under the bus in the storage area, take your carry on then try to find a seat far as possible away from the bathroom. Read a book, go to sleep, or enjoy the scenery.

Quite a few years ago I had my first handgun shipped to me via greyhound express.

Just out of curiosity, I wonder if their restrictions are corporately, or Federally mandated?

But at least you can check it. That way you'll have it available at your destination.

I think that I would pocket carry, and not worry about it.

Thank God they let you bring on a Braille recorder and stylus. You can always stab your attacker with the stylus.

Hmmm... I wonder if a cattle prod would fall under the category of "tasers" as far as weapons are concerned?
