Idaho CCW permit possible at age 19?

Im recently moved to ammon idaho and Im 19 years old. I have the ability to OC but would prefer to conceal if possible. It is under discretion of the issuing authority for someone under 21. Does anyone have any experience with this? I have nothing that would stop me legally from getting a permit and can show my certificates for safety courses. Is it something that they do often or would i be wasting my time and should i just continue to open carry

Issuing authority is the Sheriff's office for your county. Go talk to whomever is in charge of the permit process and explain your thoughts much as you've done here. They will do one of two things- tell you yes, or tell you no. If no, you can still OC, so not a huge loss. I have a permit and still OC frequently, but to each their own. Good Luck!

First off, welcome to the forum.

As to your question. Follow Recon1342 advice. Go straight to the issuing authority for an answer.

If you mention that you will OC regardless, that might convince the issuing authority to go ahead and issue you a permit if they're the type that prefers people to conceal. Just a thought. Good thing is, you have nothing to lose.

You can talk to the Sheriff but from everything I know and how I read it you must be 21.

    (11) The sheriff of a county may issue a license to carry a concealed weapon to those individuals between the ages of eighteen (18) and twenty-one (21) years who in the judgment of the sheriff warrant the issuance of the license to carry a concealed weapon. Such issuance shall be subject to limitations which the issuing authority deems appropriate.

zrcogg, Thank you for pointing that out. I don't know how I missed that. I will add that to the Idaho Page. Thank you again.

Looks like you just have to talk to the Sheriff. It is not Shall Issue but you have a shot! Thanks Again!

Stoveman, I have stated it many times in the past and will state it again. I could not do this without the assistance of people just like you, zrcogg, ironrouond, Qtip, Recon1342, archer51 and hundreds of other people just like you who send me information or give me a heads up on a law change etc etc. No person can do this by themselves. There is just to many things that impact the RKBA's that are difficult to see. This was just one of them. Thank You to everyone who has given me a heads up on changes.
