    First time & First issue

    This is my first issue.

I want to go to Valhalla and take three courses there.
    -Combat focus
    -Concealed Carry
    -Advanced executive protection

I am working toward a career in professional security but I recently found out that a CCW permit is extremely hard to obtain where I live.(New Jersey)

Should I still take the courses?

Note: I don't see moving as a viable option in the near future, but it is under consideration.

New Jersey is essentially a "no-issue" state. I've been trying to get mine for a couple years now, they always turn me down stating I have no valid reason for one (I work in NJ).

If you can afford it take the course, you can never have to much training. Apply for non resident permits in utah and Florida at least then you will be able to carry most other places in the u.s.

Welcome to the forum! Sure, take the courses. Then get some non-res permits (info here: http://www.packing.org/). Then go work in Pennsylvania.

To work in PA as a professional security officer with lethal weapons, you need your Act 235 or Guard Card. Your CHL means nothing once you clock in as a security officer. It is stated that a CHL holder may not carry while on duty for a private security organization unless he has his act 235 card. however the act 235 card does not allow you to carry while off duty. The CHL allows you to carry while off duty, but not on duty. Sounds rediculous if you ask me.

The guard card requires 40 hours of traing and is valid for 5 years. You must attend an 8 hour refreshment class to renew the card. If you fail to renew in time you must receive the 40 hour training again.

Cool Off Topic But, I had To Put It Here

So many new members have not seen it.

Something that folks in New Jersey will likely not see in the near future.

Not as off topic as it may seem...

Regarding the municipality of Ammonia Hole and its sister community of Perchlorethylene Brook: Why does New Jersey have all the toxic waste dumps and California have all the lawyers? New Jersey had first choice!

What would my chances be if a got an armed guard position(contract security) or federal agency job(TSA or Port Authority)?

What if I obtained Firearms Instructor qualifications?

If anti-gun legislators truly believed that guns kill people, the guns would be on the witness stand and the assailent would be holding the "Exhibit A" sign.

Go for the training, then move!

It's a big, big world out there and the USA is still the land of opportunity. Your oppotunity is where you make it.

    Now go do great things!

Hate to keep harping on this...

Most of my closest family members and friends live in NJ, so even if I did move away I would be returning frequently (birthdays, holidays, emergencies, etc.). Guess i'll have to use pepper sprays then

    Wheel-man,

I appreciate your interest in training at VTC!

I'm not sure where you are in Jersey, but I'm going to be in South Jersey for a few days early next month and will be speaking at an LE/Security Expo in Manhattan on the 4th.

email if you want to get together at the expo and talk about what options you might have. I'm FROM Jersey (note the FROM). ;)
