Well when I get my Illinois CCW I can stand in a field legally.

After reviewing the "No Carry areas" for CCW in Illinois, I realize I can't carry anywhere that I feel I WOULD need a weapon.
I may be exaggerating a bit but not by much.
Any where else as restrictive as Illinois?

My instructor said it would take about five minutes to tell you where you can carry in illinois and about half an hour to tell you where you cannot. And you can forget reciprocity from most states because they won't recognize anyone else's permit other than being able to carry in your car as you pass through the state. I wish I could get a job somewhere out of this hole.

So far Lisl and I have been to the pharmacy, two banks at the inside teller windows, Dairy Queen, Wally-World, the barber shop, AutoZone, and City Hall all while being legally armed in the county I live in in Illinois.

Now, if you go to school riding public transportation and need to walk to church afterward you are out of luck.

For everywhere I go it works out very well.

gotcha on city hall, sec 65-a-5 says no building or portion of building under the control of a unit of local government.

Wow, I guess Chicago must be a really safe city, since they have such strict laws! *sigh*

Minnesota is a fairly liberal state, but the carry law is pretty good. Never feel overly restricted, and private posted areas don't get you in much trouble if you forget. Pretty much the worst that can happen to you is a petty misdemeanor, unless you do something dumb like walk through a courthouse metal detector with a gun.

So basically the IL CCW law is a sham and will probably only serve to get law abiding people arrested on technicalities.

If we are to remain one nation it seems to me that like with driver licenses, CCW permits should be universal - starting with our nations capitol. There is no reasonable argument against this. Retired LE is allowed to carry (not in DC??) what makes them more special than me, or you?

I hope the good people of IL will stand up against this nonsense when it comes time to reelect the clowns in your government.

The prosecuting attorney of this county has stated, for the time being until permits are being issued, he will not prosecute, nor will any local law enforcement officer arrest for carrying concealed in this county except for a school, a church, or a courthouse. Randolph County, Illinois.

Paying the water bill at the village clerk's window at city hall doesn't count as a courthouse.

Doesn't really matter where they will let you carry. I never lost anything in IL that I need to go back for.

Now that you've brought up the fact that you can legally carry in a field in Il I'm sure corrections will be made in the law.

I have no doubt that corrections are being worked out, however, I do feel that anyone legally carrying will be at the mercy of the LEOs. It's sort of like driving on the highways, you know that going 64 mph next to a state trooper may or may not get you in trouble. Illinois is that strict step father that thinks of its citizens and business as some other children. Didn't you get your welcome card..."you're always wrong, you're always in trouble".

Seriously though, I think that people will carry concealed wherever they want to. Legal or not...so nothing has really changed. (not encouraging any illegal actions)

I am married to a former Illinois resident, we both reside in West Virginia but make the occasional trip to Illinois to visit her family. Our Concealed Carry permit there is invalid and our firearms are not welcomed either.

It was a welcome thing to hear that at least the United States Supreme Court "shot down" (pun intended) their Draconian law prohibiting Concealed Carry Permit and Law. However, the massive Liberal/Socialist Chicago Political Machine rules the good citizens of IL with a fist of iron and they determine policy and law. The Elected Officials who go to Springfield (the real Capital) are simply yes men and women to Chicago Politics. When we heard that Carry Permits will be available, we didn't break out the Champagne and celebrate, we know that it would be a dog fight with Chicago leading the way to continue to deny their people the rights afforded by the U.S. Constitution.

Not all IL residents are like that. I know many who are gun friendly and want to have the same ability for Concealed Carry as the surrounding states but the deeply imbedded control-freak Chicago machine keeps the lid firmly clamped down. It's all about power and control and if a law is made for Concealed Carry it will be the most restrictive one in the U.S. that we can guarantee.

This is just how IL Politics rolls. Unless the people who keep trying to deny the citizens there rights are booted out of office for good, this trend will surely continue.

90% of Illinois is for CCW but untill b we make Chicago quit bossing us around we get what they want us to have. I have everything I need to apply this coming January. Just waiting for the apps to come out.
On a side note I was talking to an FBI friend of mine and he said they will be looking into the juvinile (sp) records of all who apply. ISP not the FBI.
Sounds like they are fishing for reasons to not approve apps.
