Illinois Does Not Honor Oklahoma . . . AL AG Incorrect Info

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) which issues OK Licenses to Carry is reporting on their Reciprocity Page listing that Illinois honors Oklahoma. Illinois WILL NOT honor an Oklahoma License to Carry for general carry in Illinois. Talking via phone to OSBI they understand that IL will only honor the OK License to Carry in a vehicle but they state it is the License holders responsibility to read that Illinois will only honor the Oklahoma License as long as the person stays in their vehicle while in Illinois. The way they have it listed along with the other states listed many Oklahoma residents seeing the listing may believe they can carry in Illinois. They stated they will not note on their website that the OK License is only valid while in their vehicle and again stated it was the persons responsibility to know the law in Illinois if they were going to carry there. The Alabama Attorney General has still not updated his website with the new Alabama law that went into effect almost 4 months ago 8/1/13. He is still stating that Alabama will only honor those states that honor Alabama (New AL law has universal recognition) AG site still states a person canít even transport a handgun secured and unloaded without a permit. (They can without a permit now if unloaded and secured. Alabama is even Shall Issue now) All three emails I have sent them asking when they are going to update their website have gone unanswered.
State of Alabama | Office of the Attorney General
The Alabama District Attorneys Association and the Alabama Sheriffs Association working together put out a synopsis on the new law 5 days before it even went into effect and they have it all spelled out. The AG still canít update his website even when it is pointed out to him. Here is what the Alabama District Attorneys and Sheriffs Association have put out. http://www.walkercountysheriff.com/u...ct2013-283.pdf

Handgunlaw.us will add a note to the Oklahoma page on how Illinois honors the Oklahoma License and will put a link to the synopsis for Alabama in the Links Section of that states page. That info will be added Friday 11/22.

A good example of why no one should fully trust a third-party source for legal info.
If I require 'carry' info, I email the State's AG and and inquire about their 'carry laws' and their Municipality Preemption Legalities.

Some States have some kind of special stupid going on when it comes to firearm laws. My State recognizes All State's CPLs and does not allow 'Gun-Free-Zones'.

They honor all if you are traveling through and don't leave the vehicle. For more info check out the IL page at Handgunlaw.us

So I'm gonna assume that means as long as you don't use it your good to go but if something happens like a carjacking and you step outside the vehicle and use your weapon your screwed

Thanks for the update. Luckily I have no reason to ever set foot in IL. They could be giving away free ammo and I'd still avoid it.

This exception (driving through) by Illinois is soooo gracious. For the most part that's all would I would want to do in Illinois, particularly Chicago and larger metro areas. But wait... just heard on WGN news, Chicago has tightened their laws so this should really bring down their crime rate. The Chicago Chief of Police? Superintendant? or whatever, said today that even though people say that gun laws don't affect criminals getting guns that this is NOT SO! Right! Me thinks he and the Toronto mayor have been partying together.

As always, thank you Gary/Sir. I think I will just not go to Il or spend my money there. Easier to drive around the state, using the southern route.
