    That's good news.

Too bad OH won't report the total number of licenses in force in their reporting. Makes it hard to keep track of the true state of carrying, as there's no knowing how many let their license lapse. (Like any sane person would do that!)

I carry always not because I go places trouble is likely, but because trouble has a habit of not staying in its assigned zone.

The exact number varies, but Ohio went over 400k late in 2013.

This trend is happening in many places across the U.S. In states with verifiable data, Indiana has the largest number of adults per capita with a license to carry, closely followed by Michigan & Tennessee. Florida is likely right there as well but they do not separate resident and non-resident counts, so knowing the true resident total is impossible (over 50% of Florida's issued permits are non-resident. Same with Utah.) Georgia is right there as well but their total is estimated. Ohio's count per capita is still well-behind these states but it is growing quickly.

Sorry to disappoint, but IN is not tops in percapita CC permits - SD at 12.2% bests IN's 10%

UT, even discounting by half for non-residents, comes in about 11.4%.

MI isn't even in the running at 4.3%

OH percapita is right at the national average - 3.8%

It's probably time I ask the SD secretary of state office for an update, we might actually be over 13% or more by now!

I know some states are better than Ohio as far as ease of getting a permit or not even having to get a permit, but I'm really glad I live in Ohio compared to some of the other states like the peoples republics of Kommifornia, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Mass., Illinois, etc. I do wish Ohio offered a lifetime license like Indiana does, but my wife and I just renewed our licenses after 5 years and it only took 8 days to receive the new ones in the county where we renewed, so I'm pretty happy!

Actually, South Dakota is at about 9%. Utah less than 8%. Michigan is at about 9%. Ohio is about 6%. Indiana is at about 9.8%. Be sure you're using an unbiased source for your data.

    United States Concealed Carry Statistics

You can do your own math if you're willing to do a little work. The data on legally armed is mostly from 2012 but some states have been updated to reflect 2013 data. Then you need to look up the population for the state for which you want to know the per capita percentage. These numbers are all dynamic, so the exact percentage literally changes daily, but you can get a close approximation if you want to do the work. I don't use the estimated totals (Georgia, for example) when I calculate percentages, for the data is likely from a biased source that wants the count to be as high as possible. Most states publish the totals in aggregate and should be reliable data.

My numbers come from the Legally Armed site Longstreet mentioned, discounting the GAO numbers that the site adopted where they varied widely from the previously reported numbers. I update my data from official state sites where available, from credible new articles, and in the case of my home state, from email directly with the Secretary of State office. (new update pending.)

Adult population numbers are taken from the GAO report: http://www.gao.gov/assets/600/592552.pdf

Congrats to Ohio! Even IL is setting a record of permits issued--from 0 to anything above 0.

Bravo Buckeyes. Next sign up to take a Utah permit class. Between the two you are good to go in over 40 States and the rest are 'trash States' you wouldn't want to go to anyway, Cali, Mass, and a bunch of other East coast Socialist havens.

A basic calculation on the OFCC forums shows that we've got about 1 licensed concealed carrier for every 20 adults in the state.

Hooray for Ohio. Glad to hear they are "with it" up there even though I don't live there anymore!
