It's a lot heavier than most of its competition but I think it's a great gun.

Love it, great to carry in a milt sparks summer special 2 with the forward cant. If you can get some good wood grips like gemini or the like it is a dream at the range. image.jpg

I have 3 SP 101's so my opinion is pretty obvious.(I'm also eyeing a fourth I've never had a 9mm revolver before) I like how the weight tames recoil. However when I pocket carry it's a S&W 638 lighter weight makes for better pocket carry.

Love my Sp101 .357 snubby. I'd go with the 3" barrel tough. It is no more difficult to easily conceal and the benefit of improved ballistics are worth the little extra length. I'm primarily using a custom Hays Holsters pancake OWB and it's perfect!

    Federal Premium .38 spl +P 158 gr. SWC-HP.
    Or, .357 158gr. full load HP's

Usually the .38 spl +P's though.

    In the snubby..

I have messed around with both the hammer 3-4 inchers and the DAO 2inch ... All great guns and I had them loaded with some form of 357s HP or the like.. They are biggger guns though and heavier so less jump but not at all pocket guns ... If you want a pocket guns get a no lock 642 or for a inbewtn gun a ruger lcrx or lcr or a smith no lock 640

Yip, kinda heavy, but plenty strong.

Accurate & reliable ya just can't go wrong with a SP101!

    S&W fan, but...

The Ruger 101 is a great gun. Go with a 3" barrel. The extra inch makes it noticeably more shoot-able, and the difference in conceal-ability OWB or IWB is insignificant. Compare it with a 3" S&W #60, full lug, adjustable sights and buy the one you like best.

My wife has a 3" SP101 in 327. It sure is a versatile, accurate, pleasure to shoot revolver. It fits very nicely in an IWB at 4 o'clock.

The 3inch model was my first carry gun. It is very comfortable to carry and conceal.

I had one and liked it for the most part. Especially with the wolff springs. The only problem I had with it is that it only holds 5 rounds.

If I can't end a confrontation with 5 rounds, I'd be desperately seeking cover!
Don't intend to get into a gunfight! I do carry a couple of quick strips anyway.
