I've noticed the same thing but I think that it's more likely due to the fact that people don't dress up for a gun show. I know I don't. That said there is certainly a percentage of "GOB's"

What do you mean? That most of the people there are good ol' boys or that the GOBs there get preferential treatment?

    Is this what you mean?

Is this the type of individual to which you refer?

Ok let me try and elaborate and hopefully no one will take it personal. It seems when I go to gun shows I find myself trying to dress down, but some how find that I am still overdressed and always seem to get these weird looks from people. When I am looking at stuff I look for quality and ask questions I already know the answers to...if I get false answers I move on. If I donít like the price I move on. Now I say this after a recent gun show visit

The other day I was wanting to look at a vendors AR15 mags and waited patiently for him to help me. I was there first and no one else was around...another person walks up and the vendor looks at me and moves past me and helps this other guy. Ok I speak up after he is done with the other guy and ask if he had any new AR15 mags...he say yes and I asked to look at them (they were combined with many other ones behind glass) After looking at them I concluded they were not new and not what I wanted.

Then another person walks up and says to the vendor, ďDonít you hate it when these city people look at everything and donít buy anything.Ē I just walked off.

Maybe vendors at guns shows assume that because I donít dress like I am a hermit that I donít know my firearms, like a vendor trying to tell me he only sells new guns and all of his guns are right out of the box when one can clearly see guns with at least 1,000 rounds through it but priced new.

At some gun shows I get the ďWhat are you doing here, your not one of usĒ vibe...maybe I am imagining things but this is my conclusion after many gun shows.

Man, I hope you are imagining things. But you might not be, although I'd expect that there is less intentional discrimination against city slickers than you might think.

It might be a case of similar-looking and acting people relating more easily to others like themselves and less easily to others unlike themselves- -on BOTH your side and their side.

OTOH, you can try carefully sleeping in a flannel shirt over a thermal long-underwear top for a week prior to the show.

I might try that one out myself...if it'll save me some money, I'm for it.

Ok glock thanks for the clearification .

Now ill answer but understand like my screenname suggests i am a true redneck , and that simply means i have a basic education and have worked with my hands more thro my life than i have at a desk ( other than a stint in LE ) .

Not to offend you or anyone , but are you shure you are not bringing " attitude " with your dress? The reason i ask this is i have delt with and got along fine with folks at gunshows who wear suits that cost more than i make in a month . They were and are great guys . Instead of waiting politly for a vendor , try speaking when you walk up , " Hey how ya doing today , selling lots ? " or some such , make small talk before you move to the meat of why you are standing there . I wont justify vendors fleesing anyone tho it does go on a lot at gunshows , and in shops too lol . The gun croud imho is a chatty bunch where if you act like your visiting with the neighbor over the back fence rather than buying coffee at starbucks you will get further with less hassles . You only get one chance to make a first impression , and the quality of that impression will depend if you present to the person what they want to like . Like i said if i offended i apologise in advance , just my thoughts on what you have written .

Might help provide a little context if you described what dressing down looks like for you.

Black , Great point , i assumed he ment dressing down from a suit and tie . If he has spiked green hair , wears a skirt ( oops kilt ), and shrapnel hanging from his face , well chit chat wont help much i am afraid lol .

That polo shirt gotta go. My bibbed overalls really work wonders at the gun shows.

I was about to go to a local show, but now you have given me a reason to pass on it. Why bother with the possibility of getting ripped off. I would prefer to deal with an established business and possibly paying slightly more, rather than risk being fleeced.

At least in my state, a business selling used items as new would receive a visit from the state attorney general. I would imagine it would be hard to obtain the same result trying to track down a vendor at the show.

    Thanks for educating me!
