I thought this would be a good thread to give people good examples on how others properly secured CCW. Here are some pics of my LifeJacket in the center console "2000 Escalade" suburban and Tahoe are similar. Just removed the inner console and attached with 3 bolts and huge washers. Isn’t coming out. Even if it does the weapon is useless
Very nice. Just what I need, something else to spend my money on and not get more lead downrange. Dang it anyway, now I want one of those too!!!!! Guess that's what we have lists and priorities for.....
I have one of these bolted to the seat frame in place of the middle front row seat. You can't see it with the center armrest/compartment down. I drive a 2005 Chevy Silverado 1500 Crew cab Z71
Fits under back (flip) seat in a Pathfinder. Not visible or easy to find. Great safe for those times you might want to leave a weapon behind...hate those times!
Looks good LT. I have replaced both of my cars this year, and need to tackle this issue soon. One must is that the car must look stock to the thief, I am having some trouble finding a box that fits my needs. Looks like I will need to build my own.
I also have two, keyed alike for each vehicle. They also work pretty well for air travel. I can cable mine to the internal frame of my suitcase. It's light and doesn't take up much space.
We've got a DAC safe for the home and trailer - and we were going to get another base plate for the truck - but too many concerns about what to do when hauling. And hate leaving the guns out of reach. The Center of Mass seems to solve all the problems when hauling stuff (would likely damage the base plate if mounted in the (covered)bed) or hauling the kids and dog (too crowded if mounted in the cab)
Thanks again for the info... time to order a couple.
A lot of neat safe installs shown here but it all seems like overkill to me. Take up a lot of space and how do you get to the weapon if you need it in a hurry? When I'm in the vehicle my SW40VE sits in an old Fobus holster bolted into the console. When I have to leave it unattended it goes in a In-Car Gun Safe. It's inexpensive and is 1.75" thick so it slips nicely into the space up under the rear seat. A strip of Velcro keeps it from sliding around.

I like your use of a spare paddle holster. I only use my safe for occasions where I need to enter a building where I'm not permitted to carry - post office, airports...
The rest of the time when I'm driving, it's where it always is when my pants are on - at 3:30 OWB.
I use the Center-of-mass gun safe for my car. I especially like the fact that, if necessary, I can take it into a hotel room, or a vacation house, and secure my weapon there as well.
I know as soon as I get my license I'll be ordering 2 key'd alike center of mass. I drive a dodge neon, and those will actually fit under the seat, very amazed at that.
Like many here, I have 2 COM safes keyed alike, in my truck and the Suburban. No worries about getting to the weapon if I need it fast, the safes are only there if I have to secure the weapon when I absolutely have to go into someplace where carry is prohibited, otherwise, the weapon is on my hip.
I must be missing something. The "center-of-mass" web site advertising hype says "This safe will make you compliant with Ohio's CCW law requiring that your gun be “…in plain sight“… and in a “…lockable container…” - Wow, "lockable", but not "locked". That takes care of all eventualities, doesn't it?
Here in Texas, fortunately, the legislature hasn't saddled us with such intellectually-vacant law. I don't leave my gun laying around "in plain sight" in my vehicle, it's "on me" the majority of the time, but if I do have to leave it inside the truck, the doors have locks, and the gun is *well* out of sight. Good enough for me.
I use a concealment day runner and leave it half way open so I can retrieve it without having to unzip anything. I also have a couple of the Life Jacket gun locks displayed in LTUSMC'S photo. I should put that in my car for times when I cant carry into a building. I really like LTUSMC's Set up.
Wouldn't even take bolt cutters probably. ***** would get through it and 21 ga steel isn't very thick. A big screwdriver and a hammer would get it open pretty easily. Like anything else, nothing will stop a determined thief. If he wants it bad enough he'll get it. It's advantage is in it's concealability. The box isn't for extended secure storage. It serves the purpose for occasional use. Better than leaving a weapon unsecured in the glovebox or console.
Don't know if anyone has mentioned this in past threads, but I have had an electronic drawer/gunsafe under the passenger seat for years! I push a hidden button on my left and the drawer shoots out from under the passenger seat, (ejects out towards the back seat, so I can grab it without really breaking my profile/silohette). I highly recommend this toy!! Bigtime cool factor, plus it's useful!
Just pulled it out of my old car and I am going to mount it in my winter/work car here in the next week or so.
If anyone is interested in more specifics, check out www.Galls.com on the web and search their website for "Electric Lock Auto Safe". Runs about $90 last I checked.
Did I mention the cool factor?? :hand10:
