New natural area banning weapons... Right next to the Ghetto

    image.jpg

I live in Palm Beach County Florida. This is the second park they've opened in the last year. They are big about 1000 acres of fishing and woods. I am an avid bass fisherman but will not be taking part because this park is literally one block from the worst part of town and now they banned my only protection.

This place has prime fishing spots, both parks actually. For years we've been waiting for these waters to become public and open for angling.

Is this even constitutional? How sad. Who will obey this sign anyway? Only the law-abiding citizens not the thugs.

I wouldn't go there. I know nothing about fishing but, from what I have seen in Florida there are a lot of places to fish.

    You are in Florida.
The County cannot ban legally concealed handguns.
Counties and municipalities cannot regulate lawful concealed carry.
If you are fishing, you can even open carry if you choose.

There are a lot but it's the principle. Two of the largest places have now banned CC.

Does such posting carry weight of law in FL? I don't believe so, checking at handgunlaw.us

So take that as a suggestion you are free to disregard.

I carry always not because I go places trouble is likely, but because trouble has a habit of not staying in its assigned zone.

    I'll say it again.
    They can't.
Please look up Florida State law regarding where you cannot legally carry.
Those are the only places you need to be concerned with, and County parks are not one of them.
    That sign is meaningless.

The problem is that what if I fish there and deputy comes to check my fishing license (the guy does that) and asks if I have weapons? I can tell him the sign is meaningless but will it really make a difference? Where does it say such signs have no weight?

Sounds like your concealed carry permit would cover you there. Just to be safe, I'd contact the sheriff for his take on the rules of the road in a case like this.

No offense to the OP, but the legal answer to his question can be obtained from his states laws, which is available online. I suggest he go to the state site and look for the answer. If if cant be found there then ask your local sheriff for clarification. He may not even know the answer or give you wrong info as well. Best bet is your states official website. Asking strangers to do your homework for you or taking their advice from a public forum is not only unwise and foolish but can land you in jail as well. Discussing guns, ammo, and training is what forums are for. Legal advice is best left up to lawyers.

Go fishing and open carry. They can't say anything to you legally. Welcome to FL. FL state laws are all power full when it comes to firearms. Counties and cities can't do crap to make more restrictive laws or ordinances.

You can fish confidently with the knowledge that even though it's near the ghetto there won't be any guns there. After all there's a sign stating that guns are prohibited, isn't there?

If you believe that you might as well start digging a grave reserved for you.

We have a no firearms in State Parks law in Wisconsin. However - legal gun owners licensed to carry concealed are allowed to carry. They just ask that you don't open carry or let your weapon show. There are also no firearms signs at the park entrances but if you have a CCL you can ignore them. I was friends with the Park Ranger & when he found out that I had my CCL he asked to see my carry piece. I told him I was obeying the law & not carrying. That's when he told me it was legal. Thank God for Gov. Scott Walker. The next day I showed him my M&P40. He carries a Glock 22 & was impressed. Since then he retired & the first thing he did after turning in his duty weapon was buy an M&P.

A nature preserve? Do they plan on removing those sidewalks and the bridge?

It says no weapons so you can't even have a pocket knife on you.
