Post Canadians Get CCW Rights in Florida

Just heard the news that Florida has been added to the list of US States allowing "non-resident alien Canadians" (ie. tourists/short term visitors) to CCW in that state as long as the relevant course is completed.

Fortunately for us Canucks, the course (along with the Utah and New Hampshire qualifications) is offered through www.safeguardguy.com right across the country.

We may never get to pack North of the Border, but it's nice to know that one can do it in more and more States, what with reciprocity and all.

Its a start! Where there is a demand, supply will open up. I'm glad to see you guys having these rights here. You may not be Americans by citizenship, but if a person believes in the right to self defense - by God, they should be able to practice it.

I'm really glad this is starting to come around more.

I think I'm going to write my state reps about this now.

I'm a Canadian in WA State, I cannot fathom why a foreign government has no problem with me having a CPL, while my home country will not allow it unless I'm a politico or a gang snitch, seems backwards to me, but "backwards" gets the magority of the votes in Canada for some reason.

I have no plans to permanently return to Canada.

I'm looking forward to 2010, then I can get sworn in as a US citizen.

Could you please tell me your reference for that statement? I have completed the $50 NRA Florida CCW course (which is a joke for Canadians who have gone through the Canadian non-restricted PAL exam process or have had military experience). I also paid another $112 to Orlando FDACS office to complete the CCW NICS, finger-printing and 90 day residency. I am no 'tourist or short-term visitor', as am in FL at least 180 days every year with boxes of house bills back to 1996 to prove it. I received a 'Notice of Omission' letter back today from FDACS Division of Licensing that, as I am not a US citizen, I must submit (within 30 days) a Form I-551 (Green Card) from USCIS along with more proof of 90 days residency. I am 76, retired and have no desire to work or need for a Green Card (until now). No Green Card means no CCW. I have no intention of ever 'carrying' in public, just at home or in forest. I only started this process at request of a neighbour policeman who was worried about me living alone at my age. Which turned out to be a waste of money. Very disappointing. Again, please tell me your reference for that statement. I need it quickly. Anyone have other (accurate) news on this? Thank you, John
