My guess is that he wanted his and your actions to be seen by the dashboard camera.

He didn't feal like you were a threat but didn't want to take any chances.

I have been stopped 2 times here in Fla. We are not required to announce we have a gun but I do anyway. Both times I was asked where it was and told don't touch.
    I didn't get a ticket either time.
I was stopped one other time and wasn't armed. The officer that stopped me was one who had done so before and got really mad that I WASN"T armed. She really went off on me. Next time I saw her she demanded to see it. Happiness I had it and got a thumbs up.

He could of had a video camera on his unit & wanted to show his actions without taking it in possession & out of the camera's view. I've never taken a weapon off a legally armed person either in a traffic stop, just wanted to know where it was, thanking them for informing me, & I probably would give them a warning.

Since I was never a "traffic" cop, I'ld rather get an arrest out of it, or a ticket because I felt a warning wasn't going to do any good.
