    CCW and the social drink?

So I am sitting here having a cold one and wonder how you guys handle the social drink and CCW.

When you go out, do you have a “designated CCW carrier” ? What about at home when it’s a hot day and you want to kick up your feet open a beer and watch the grass grow?

Well, for Ohio, no carry in a place that sells alcohol for consumption. So no carrying in the bars or to the restaurants. Now, alcohol and firearms definately don't mix, however, I'm not gonna say I have never had a drink with a weapon around me or on my hip while watching tv or something. If I know that the night is going to involve copious amounts of drinking as college kids do every now and then, all weapons are unloaded and locked up.

    Alcohol and guns

I don't think that alcohol and guns go well together. You need all your wits if you are handling a loaded gun. I will not take even one drink if I am carrying a gun.

In some states, such as California, CCW holders can lose their permit if they have a blood alcohol level greater than zero. If you are involved in a shooting in most places, they will take a blood sample and test it. Any amount of alcohol can be used against you in court to show that you were reckless.

I only drink at home, so I really don't worry about it much.
I dont want to risk it, it would be far to easy to get into trouble with any amount of alcohol and a gun; even if all my actions are correct.

Here in Arkansas you can go into a resturaunt that serves alcohol while you are carrying.

While technically there is no law that says you cant drink while toting, it is expected that one would use the same guidelines as drinking and driving. For instance, if you feel like you dont need to be driving because of the drink, then you probably dont need to be toting.

A DWI or a DUI here while toting will result in the loss of the CHL forever. Its definatley not something to take lightly.

As for sitting on the deck watching the world go by, who would care ?

Why would you want to drink while carrying? One drink can slow your reaction time and most importantly, your JUDGEMENT. Guns + booze = recipe for disaster.

The only places off limits to carrying in PA are courthouses and federal buildings. Never seen a law that prohibits alcohol in your blood at the time of a defensive shooting either.

Not saying I'd drink while carrying (never have, never will; I don't drink period), but it's technically not against the law. Common sense still applies.

same here. occasionally I will have a drink in a bar or restraunt. when I do , no CCW. also in MI, its against the law to have any alcohol when carrying.

Churches are not off-limits either, in Pennsylvania.

Schools are technically not against the law to carry in, but nobody's been caught carrying in a school (or at least been taken to court for it), so it's shakey ground legally.

edit; here, look for yourself. If you don't believe the statutes are correct or up to date on that website, I encourage you to visit your local law library and look it up. There is NO statute barring carry in establishments that serve alcohol, or churches.

In Missouri no weapons in bars unless the bar is a restaurant also. Maybe a beer with my meal here.

No matter what state I ever live in or what the law says, if I am going to drink, which is less and less often as I get older, I do not carry.

I am not going to put myself in any situation where I may be put in a jam over having to defend myself after having had a beer. I just don't think it would play well to a jury at all.
