Hole sealed in Alabama CW law...

One glaring gap in the law has been that, although AL is an OC state, there has been a prohibition against carrying a loaded weapon in a vehicle without a permit. Therefore, you could be perfectly legal with your sidearm on your hip, but, theoretically, you became illegal unless you unloaded it and stored the ammo in a different location from the weapon, patently absurd. Worse, word began to spread that some PDs were using the law as a "gotcha," when nothing else would stick, charging individuals who were in their vehicles with their weapons holstered in plain view. If this completes passage, it will correct that obvious nonsensical hole...

They fought against this for revenue reasons last time.

    And this:

"He said changing the law would lead to more road rage incidents."

Every time some idiot says this. And every time it doesn't happen. You think they'd figure it out by now.

That is a law that deserves to be changed.

It appears the High Sheriff likes his revenue stream.. hmmm .

Yep, the old "blood in the streets" "road rage" . Ah man, one would think they'd come up with something new, like, "It's for the children "

This has only passed the senate, so who knows. I think the odds are good that it passes...

Unfortunately, Mike Hubbard (speaker of the house) has already stated he will kill the bill. The ASA (Alabama Sheriff's Association) is fighting it hard. It needs many thousands of Alabama folks to call/email their senator to tell them to make sure it passes, it is going to the floor 9am this tuesday (HB14).
There is also another bill working it's way through the senate as well, though this one is not so good, and puts even more restrictions on carry.

I'm not even going to give my opinion on Hubbard, for fear of a ban. It's been established what turns his crank and he's been indicted for it...

He should have been kicked out of the House for being under indictment in the first place. And yeah. He's going to kill it.

And this is all about revenue, which is why the ASA is against it.

Crooked politics have run Alabama for years.

Only one thing to do melt the phone lines and email servers. It still can work at least on a State level.
Make sure they know you are watching closely.
It is difficult to get anything passed in a state when those that claim to represent LEOs are opposed.
But it is doable. Best of luck with this.....

The gun rights group I am a member of, had close on 40 members turn up at Montgomery last tuesday to pressure the senate to push SB14 through, and amend the other one. We did make some headway, but still a long way to go.

Pressure works. The Nevada Legislature refused to move forward a Campus Carry bill this session. But the pressure became so hot this last week, they introduced an Emergency bill on Friday.

    It will likely pass.

Ohio has the same problem. But it doesn't seem like anyone wants to change it here.

Yes in Ohio also as soberbiker said, you can only carry loaded in a vehicle with a ccw. Ammo separate virtually the same law. They don't want to change it in Ohio because it would do a away with their ccw permit money. I live in one of the smallest counties and it has one of the highest ccw permit rates. It's our tourism industry ha ha.
