    Wally World

I see numerous references to folks tromping through their local Walmart for their first day of carry. Am I crazy or has this been deemed the ThingToDo(tm) for first carry?

Can someone explain? Where did this tradition come from?

I'm pretty sure that locally, I've seen the posted "ghostbuster" looking sign that basically says "Thou shalt not carry in Walmart".

    -- a very confused Sarge.

I picked up my OH card from the Sheriff today. Just trying not to break protocol and determine if I should be planning a trip to the old Wally World this afternoon <grin>.

    Sgt.
The tradition is to go to Wally World, buy some ammo and eat some nachos, it has been elaborated more in other threads. The basic idea is to go carry somewhere that lots of people are to start to get used to the feeling and so that you realize everyone is not watching you like they think you are.

I have not seen a gunbuster sign at any Ohio Walmart, but I haven't been to all of them. Sure it isn't a no smoking sign? Walmart's corporate policy is to allow concealed carry where legal.

    Congrats on the new permit.

Yep, just a way to start getting comfortable with your new carry status in a large group of people.
It's become a sort of tradition around here...you will also hear it referred to as "the nacho run"...

...has this been deemed the ThingToDo(tm)
It is on the TTD list...

I was really pleasantly surprised my first day of carry. We went to Applebees for dinner and I didn't feel one bit different, other than having a little more weight on my hip than I was used to. I felt completely comfortable. Perhaps because my husband had always carried two guns, one for each of us, previously when we went out. The only difference was that I carried my own gun.

    Applebees was my "nacho run."

Sgt.Sausage, I asked the exact same question a few weeks back. And got the same replies. So when my wife received cocealed carry permit a while back, I told her we were going to Wally World. She looked at me and said why, so I also filled her in on the rest of the story. She thought it was silly, but she went along with it. It was fun.
Welcome to the forums by the way.

    Congrats on the permit.

Indeed yes - this does come up periodically - as folks wonder what it's all about

It is pretty much a ''CombatCarry Thing'' but all it means really is going in at the deep end to get used to crowds and trying not to give in to that constant nagging wish to keep adjusting! Not to mention the feeling that you have 100's of eyes looking at only you, and surely to heck - they must be seeing your ''bulge'' LOL

I guess we can call it a CC tradition now really - bit of fun but with a serious component too.

    Be safe and carry responsibly.

My first day I carried, I was a little afraid that my gun would show. I kept making sure it was hidden. Walmart was the first place I carried. Steve48

That is one of the things Colorado did right when we passed CCW here...I can go into establishments that serve alcohol, I can even have a beer...the standard for CCW is the same as driving under the influence (DWI): don't get up to that .04 BAC!..

Got to love PA's carry laws where next to everywhere is legal
