I don't see why you should not be able to have it replaced with a new one. If you are considering doing this, I'd buy the new hammer NOW and hang on to it, in case you decide you want the gun restored to its original condition.

A little different twist..... bob the 'new' hammer and install it.

Save the one that came on the 637 for the day when you might want to go back to true 'original'.

You can get a new hammer from Brownells. Dont know if you have someone in mind for your bobbing, but I can highly recommend Terry Baylor (He's out of Nowlin Gun Company in Claremore, OK). He has done two S&W and one Charter hammer bobs for me and removed the single action notch and they are smoooooooth. He also does reasonable pricing too. If your interested in him, give me a shout and I'll pass on his number to you.

    Ditto Fed w/ a SIG

If you're going to bob the hammer then might as well have the notch removed for the smoothest pull.

Sorry but, I disagree with buying another hammer right off the bat. Why? S&W hammers will be around forever - not exactly a rare item.
Put the $$$ that you would spend on buying an extra hammer toward having a pro bob the hammer...remove the single cock notch & polish your action for a butter smooth DA pull.

Why sit on an extra hammer when you'll probably never want to go back to it? - just my personal opinion on that.
