    Seattle Municipal codes?

I was on a walk today since it was the first time the sun has been out in weeks and noticed this sign. SMC 18.12, upon further research it appears this code bans firearms in parks. Can anyone put this in perspective to the WA state laws.

    Try this link.

    http://apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=9.41.300

This explains the only exceptions that may be made by cities, counties, etc. that may be more restrictive than state law. Specifically, look at subsection (2).

My understanding is that since Washington is an open-carry state, this ordinance (18.12) prohibits open carry within parks, but if you read 9.41.300, it states that these laws or ordinances shall not apply to persons with a CWP.

Many years ago, my friend and I noticed a sign that had (then) recently gone up in a park in Shoreline where we both lived. I emailed the state AG's office and asked if those local ordinances applied to him or me since we both had our CWPs. The reply was no, they did not apply to us. Since I never planned at that time to open carry, I never thought to ask them the question whether or not open carry was prohibited, with or without a CWP.

    Hope this helped.

You're sure welcome. Not sure, but I may even have the original emails if you're interested. Oh, and my friend clarified for me one point; I think I ended up emailing the King County Sheriff's Department and was then referred to their legal department which then provided the answers.

I have to keep track of all these little things. I thought there were a very limited number of places that we could not carry....schools, post office, gov buildings. Are there others that I need to be aware of?

I don't have any desire to carry open, just concealed.

    Thanks for the continued education.

You can carry in government buildings in Washington State. Exceptions that I'm aware of are jails, buildings with courts in them, hospitals that treat mental illness, any restaurant/bar that is restricted to 21 or older. (i.e. you can eat at Red Robin, but not in the bar area) Schools are a federal no carry zone as is the Post Office I beleive. Municiple buildings and sports arenas are okay to carry in.
