My daughter has gotten serious with a young man of whom my wife and I really approve. We're meeting his parents for the first time tonight at a Chinese buffet. I'll be open carrying, as I always do in restaraunts which serve alcohol (Virginia prohibits concealed carry in those establishments). Ernie has gone to the range with me, and he says he is inheriting several handguns from a grandfather (including a US Marine issue 1911, a Browning Hi Power & a .50 cal. muzzleloader), so my guess is they're a gun friendly family, but even gun friendly people could have a problem with me open carrying upon our first meeting. I sent a text to my girl today inquiring whether they would mind me open carrying; her response said go for it. I'll report back on the resulting fireworks, if any. Are they or ??

Changing to suit others isnt the way to go, be yourself.
good luck with all.
Some people are like Slinkys, not really good for anything but put a BIG smile on your face when you knock em down a flight of stairs.
I like human's answer. If nothing else, they got to respect that.

I like your daughters responce. It shows you raised her right!
If it is not in the US Constitution then the Federal Government should not be doing it.
"Carrying a gun is a social responsibility."
So, dinner went fine. After initial introductions, I told them that when we went through the buffet line, they would notice that I am carrying a gun. Then I explained why I had to open carry in the restaurant. They both sat there like "why are you telling us this? We're cool with it." The Dad had a military career and grew up in the woods hunting. The Mom's dad used to sell used cars, handled large sums of cash, and was always armed. So they are very accepting of guns and their proper use.
Glad to hear it went fine. Would hate to start the relationship off on a bad note.
The only thing that stops bad guys with guns is good guys with guns. SgtD
All's well that ends well!

I like this kind of story especialy when all involved think alike.
Glad it went well...sounds like your daughter has common sense and good taste..no doubt thanks to her parents!
So, if this lad and your daughter get hitched, will there be an open bar? Are you going to open carry then too? And more important, is the cast of CC invited?

I hope you carried some Zantac as a back-up!!!!!!!!!
Looks like the only thing that could have gone better for you is if they were carrying also
